Iranian officials want to attack Israel now

An influential group of Iranian officials are lobbying the leadership in Tehran to launch a preemptive missile strike against the Jewish state, Ha’aretz quoted one of those officials as saying during a briefing of foreign diplomats in London recently.

Dr. Seyed Safavi, a top advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, told his audience that he and others like him want Iran to attack Israel before the latter has an opportunity to follow through on threats to hit Iran’s nuclear facilities.

He said that Israel’s insistence on keeping the military option for dealing with Iran’s nukes on the table had bolstered the preemptive strike argument, but that Khamenei had yet to adopt it as official policy.

I remember during the Cold War, the Fall Out Shelter era, that some people had designated meeting places. The loved ones, if separated, were to make their way to the designated place and wait two years. The understanding was, if we are not reunited within two years we won’t be except in eternity. Seems that reality is what you are suggesting.

Do you realize you just repeated the prophecies of Ezekiel 38?

Having Barack Olmert doesn’t help either.

I think one would have to look beyond the reported rhetoric, and dig down to assess the logic of an Iranian attack.

First off, let's grant that although Iran's leaders may be nuts, they're not stupid; and they've demonstrated the ability both to take and to maintain a long strategic view.

So... What would be the logic of an Iranian attack now? And what would be its goals?

To be honest, there isn't much advantage to be gained from an outright Iranian attack on Israel. They would almost certainly wait to see who gets elected in two weeks; and then they'd wait some more.

If Obama is elected, they'll wait until he's sworn in, because I think George Bush would want to deal with Iran while he's still president. I would not be surprised, in that scenario, to see American attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities, from Iraqi bases and carrier assets.

Iran would instead wait until after January 20, and live up to Mr. Biden's dire prediction. And if Debka is right (huge IF) that Iran is within a few months of getting a bomb, then the Iranian test would probably feature their bomb in some ambiguous role.

If McCain is elected, I think that Iran doesn't do anything at all.

Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking." Biden added

It won't be six months. It will be more like 6 hours.

Having Obama in the white house could certainly provide Israel with motivation for signing a 7 year truce. And the 3.5 year turning point of the Anti-Christ midway into the tribulation would come about the time of the next elections.

When you look at it from Iran’s side, I’m afraid the Iranian officials are correct. Israel will almost certainly attack before Iran builds a bomb, since Iran has promised to eliminate Israel. So if you know Israel is going to attack between now and February, wouldn’t you attack first?

W can’t attack between now and the elections, because he will prejudice the elections by doing so. Iran and Israel won’t either for the same reason. So between Nov 4 and Jan 30, expect fireworks.

Iran might want to wait until close to actual transfer of power, so that W doesn’t have a chance to initiate the U.S. response. Israel on the other hand, probably would be better off attacking while W is still in office. Which means for Iran to be preemptive, they would too.

Israel have any major holidays in that time frame that Iran would target?

“W can’t attack between now and the elections, because he will prejudice the elections by doing so.”

All depends. If W can provide a “serious” first strike against Iran, it may enhance a certain candidates chances.

"I know how Israel fares in this exchange, I have read the Book."

What do you think the outcome is?

Here's what I think, Israel can't be wiped off the face of the earth. But Russia does overrun Israel before Armeggedon. Israel is "unwalled" and at peace at the time Russia invades. It's on the Russian army's return from Egypt after hearing "trouble from the north" that the destruction of the Russian army at Armeggedon occurs and Christ intervenes.

So I think if an Israeli/Iran war occurs prior to the Russian invasion, that Israel must win against Iran. That's not to say Israel might not suffer loss in the process.

That is a possibility, and one that Israel must be thinking about too.

But the psychology of doing that is really hard to pin down.
That could backfire and give Obama the election.

We would probably have a patriotic moment, but the rats would soon be saying that Bush did it to influence the elections. And the press would soon be on board with the rats. That’s a toss up. There is no doubt that America would rather have McCain at the helms during a war, especially with Muslims. But if our people don’t realize the war was necessary it gives Obama a whole lot of clout.
