Not that it means much, but during the debate I asked my wife to “Listen to what he is saying, don’t watch him”. Makes all the difference in the world.

Palance did a great job at alternately showing his disgust then showing a certain glee about sick, vile, or disgusting things. He was good.

I feel old now.

I think the “hiss” we hear is a speaking technique to handle the irritating speech thing of the “s” sounds at the ends of words making a REALLY annoying HISSING sound - so it’s sounded more flatly and not with a low-class HISS. Obama does this technique to an irritating degree.

example: The word HARRASS is pronounced by the “well bred” as HARR’ ASS instead of HARR ASS’. I think that’s an old technique used by radio announcers and sophisticated t.v. people like “Katie” Couric.
