Tonight convinced me that McCain is a boy scout and really has no choice to recover in the next four weeks.  Unless of course Bin Laden brings down the Sears tower or something similar.  And since President Bush has killed or maimed most Al Qaeda types in Iraq, I doubt they are capable of picking their noses let alone a fight with the US.

The real clue to the winner on November 4th will be the stock market at closing time this Friday.  Wealthy investors are smart investors.  Normally they wouldn't sell in a panic and in fact would probably start dollar cost buying right about now.  My bet is that they will start selling this week. Thinking that selling for something is better than waiting for Obama to completely kill the market.

Regardless of what he claims, Obama was raised by an ideological liberal, was a community organizer which is a euphemism for an ideological liberal, attorney for ACORN and freely admits in his book that he learned how to manipulate the system simply by not acting like an angry black man.

Hold on to your billfold.

“It’s not over by any means … I just wanted more of a “Hell yeah!” taste in my mouth at the end of that day.

I walked away with an “Uh, okay.”

The McCain that I know will not give you a “hell yeah” moment.

The debate I saw was one that in several segments handed Obama’s hat to him.

What is up with all of this negativity?

This election is a referendum on Obama.

We need focus...please.

I am also annoyed that no one – especially Senator McCain – calls out Senator Obama and his ridiculous assertion that 95% of Americans will get a tax cut under his “save the middle class” tax plan. How on earth is it possible to get a tax cut when you don’t pay income taxes? A little more than 45% of Americans do not – repeat, do not – pay income tax. That means Senator Obama’s “tax breaks” will amount to a welfare payment to those who don’t deserve it. Senator McCain, are you home? Can someone also inform Senator Obama that to raise taxes on corporations, as he wants to do and says is somehow “fair,” results in customers and workers bearing the ultimate burden?

This illustrates clearly one of my top three utter frustrations with McCain. How can you not explain these basic truths to the idiot masses that are a large part of the American voting public? Welfare payments to the segment of the population that contribute nothing to the economy by "paying their fair share" of taxes and the unrebutted claims that it's good to be taxing the big bad corporations, who will just transfer their own tax burden to their gullible customers.

It's unbelievably stupid that neither McCain or Palin for that matter have directly attacked these ridiculous liberal assumptions.

This was my impression of the debate

blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

I thought the VPs did a better job and I’d take either of them any day over Obambi and McCain.

I wish Palin could debate Obambi. She would do great against him.

The format was terrible. McCain didn’t say much that would make a conservative happy. Obama was slick as usual.

PS there are no undecided black voters...

It was boring and argumentative. Half the time each candidate spent telling people what the other candidate believed. Then they would argue back at eachother that they had been misrepresented..... It gets too muddled and no real message comes across. I wanted concrete objectives - attack strategies on the problems that effect my life.

I started reading the grocery ads in the newspaper 3/4 of the way through.

Interesting take on things.

Jeff Jacoby in the Boston Globe seems to think McCain ‘excelled’ last night and looked Presidential.

I tend to agree.

If we can possibly resist the temptation to frag our standard bearer, we all might end up having that ‘Hell Yeah!’ moment you speak of on the night of November 4th.

Sen. McCain did better, but Sen. Obama is sounded like a holier-then-thou fool.

The good news is debates don’t really matter. Anyone truly undecided at this point is completely clueless. This is the “moron vote” that decides elections. the bad news is there’s millions of morons out there. The dems cultivate the moron vote, and they will win.

Nice summary.

So we are down to two choices:
The marxist & the liberal.

That was not a “townhall” debate. Whatever it was, it was designed to take away McCains advantage in a “townhall” style debate.

I guess Warren Buffet (sp?) will be the next Secretary of the Treasury, whoever wins...although McCain said there’s plenty of good people out there, someone from E-Bay, as well? I don’t like being told how to feel about problems, real or imagined. It’s happening, I don’t need it redefined in my case. Who won the debate? I dunno. Look at the transcript and tally who actually answered the questions put to them, take the sum of the the total...there’s your answer. Who?

I agree overall. I think the biggest problem last night was the format and Tom Brokaw's insertion of himself into the the debate by continually insisting that they follow the rules. It made the debate boring and a non event IMHO. Brokaw obviously went out of his way to pick the blandest, safest questions for this thing. The candidates should have called on audience members and taken it from there.

McCain should have turned to Brokaw and told him to pipe down. People were tuned in to hear what the candidates had to say and not the moderator.

"Can someone also inform Senator Obama that to raise taxes on corporations, as he wants to do and says is somehow “fair,” results in customers and workers bearing the ultimate burden?"

Obama did make a great argument for lowering taxes on corporations when he cited his own running mate's home state of Delaware and how they enjoy the benefits of corporate tax reductions. Too bad McCain didn't pick up on it.

Well said...I was able to listen to most of the debate and sadly, while Obama the extremist leftie managed to come across as intelligent, reasonable and well spoken, if for no other reason than that he seems to be speaking vaguely so to not reveal his true beliefs, McCain came across as, well, uninspired.

And the 300 billion “buy your mortgage” sounded like an idea that only about 75 pct of voters would not like.

Too bad McCain couldn’t have been tag teaming with Palin. McCain clearly needed to sit out the match in the corner as by debate end, Obama and McCain managed to come across as too simular.

And yes, McCain needs to say things with about half the words. Seems being a Senator makes one wordy.

Previous Presidential candidates generally are state governors aren’t they? Now we have 4 Pres/VEEP candidates, only one with any “management” experience.

It seemed to me, primarily, that they were differing on the finer points of similarly held positions.

This works to Obama's advantage. If there's no perceived difference on issues, it becomes all about personality and stage appeal.

Watching the debate last night reminded me of what my wise old football coach use to tell us about playing to a tie game, it's about as exciting as kissing your sister.

With 27 days left in this election, anything short of McCain coming straight out and calling Obama and anyone voting for him an out and out socialist and enumerating a long list of socialist beliefs and works that Obama espouses and supports will fall short come election day.

I'm not holding my breath for McCain to say anything so truthful. Other than picking Sarah as his VP, he's been the big disappointment I expected him to be. McQueeg will set the GOP and conservative goals back 8 years, if this country lasts that long under Obama. I'll cast my vote for him come November 4th, but it's really a vote for Sarah and against socialism.
