Here is video from this morning of Sen. John McCain speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative just before returning to Washington, D.C. McCain told the crowd that the "whole future of the American Economy is in danger." As a result, McCain said he could not carry on a campaign while the real need for the nation is that he be in Washington helping to find a solution to the financial crisis. . . . . I watched parts of this live on FNC. I chuckled when McCain said something like, “The cause of this problem is not too far from here,” with Clinton only about 20 feet away! (To be fair, McCain was blaming Wall Street.)

He also said we need a strong economy to fight global warming.

Throw money down the bank hole so we can throw money down the global warming hole.

McCain wants several important modifications to the plan as it stands: greater accountability/oversight, taxpayer recovery of money put up, transparency in the implementation process for open scrutiny, NO EARMARKS!!, no ceo bonuses for those who are being helped.

He gave another clear, decisive speech. Very focused and determined.

If the future of the American economy is in danger, pull pork projects to fund the bail out.

If congress won’t tighten its own belt first, then they must not think the danger is very great.

That’s right. I have not changed my mind after hearing the Presidents speech.

Let it all crash. Mexicans will all have to go home because their black market economy will fall apart, entitlements will have to take a 5-year vacation as tax revenues go down significantly, an angry populace will be further awakened to the corruption of Congress, housing prices will get back to where they should be, stocks will be properly priced with none of these phony 30-1 P/E ratios, on and on. Let it all crash.

Funny thing about the depression. You always hear about bread lines, hoboes and people losinbg their homes. You never hear about the millions who did ok.

Both sets of my great grandparents did ok and nobody lost their farm.

LoL You know the lack of outrage by the press at lawmakers is telling. They know whose balls are in the fire. This should be a replay of 2006 but on the Democrat side.

I saw it as a challenge, getting the Dems to cross the isle and work together. Then again, with Dingy Harry in control it isn’t likely to occur. This makes McCain look good and they don’t want that. What the hell is McCain thinking, he wants to put the country first, the Dems don’t want that. (I’m PO’d at the Dem’s.) If it were up to me every member of Congress would be given a Lie Detector test before they served.

I can't complain about any of that. I hope it all ends up in the bill.

I have to say - I've never been McAmnesty fan. But him suspending his campaign and going to Washington has me admiring him. That and the determined, effective way he's run his campaign. I never saw him as a leader before - more of a maverick that had to stand out. But he's showing some leadership skills here and I surprisingly feel more comfortable knowing he's in DC to fix this thing. (Now, if only he would forget about amnesty when elected...)

We could probably fund most of it with what we give every year in foreign aid to countries that hate us.

btw - cute screen name!

I agree. Prices are too high and being held up by fake bookeeping and government scams. SCREW em. I say let it crash and expose them for what they are. I would not be as bad as they say. Worth it to get rid of parasites.

My grandparents bought up a lot of land cheap in western Oklahoma during the Depression. Life wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t the `Grapes of Wrath’ for them either. A lot of other Okies tightened their belts and rode it out, even with all the `help’ from FDR.
The histrionics from the Chicken Littles is getting tedious. Suck it up, ruck up and buck up you whining sissies.
No bail out, no corporate welfare.
