September is Silly Time in Texas (Party Like It's 1900)

To Those Who Decided to Remain in Ike's Path: We're all painfully aware of the pounding that the Great State of Texas has taken in the wake of Hurricane Ike. One cannot help but pray that this storm and it's consequences don't represent a repeat of the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900, a storm that stole the lives of between 6000 and 12000 people. It's a relief that the majority of coastal Texans heeded the weeklong warnings from various media sources. For those who for some reason chose to remain, I would like to share the following quote from one of your favorite native sons, Mr. BlueCollarComedy himself, the venerable Mr. Ron White on the matter of hurricanes:

"It's not THAT the wind is blowing, but WHAT the wind is blowing."

As I ponder these words, I ask myself one question. What sorts of wonderful things MIGHT these winds be blowing? (Hmmm ... There must be at least one thing ... hmmm ...) Oh yeah. WATER!!!

Note to self: I live on the Gulf Coast. It's September... (What else? Oh yeah right!) It's 2008. There's Doppler Radar. There's Fox News, CNN, MSNBC ...

Note to the "Indigent" and "Impoverished" Who Can't Seem to Catch a Good Shake:

Gather your "impoverished" and "indigent" neighbors, form a carpool, and jam yourselves into a cheap extended-stay motel on higher ground. The management may very well make an exception to the occupancy limit, considering the circumstances.

Note to the Brilliant Minds Who Elected to Stay out of Some Misguided Sense of Parochial Righteousness or Simply for the Fun of It (Waffle House Joke):

Double-quarter-cheese plate Scattered Soaked and Soggy Teehee.
