That's beautiful. I remember when, at the ripe old age of 36, I was expecting my first child. The "genetic counselor" took over an hour to explain the various chromosonal problems/deformities/disabilities my child, and therefore I, could/would be facing.
After her lovely monologue about the profound multiple disabilities my child was exposed to because I was such an "old" mom-to-be, I said "okay, thanks for the uplifting talk, are we through?" Although all my bloodwork came back a-ok and the ultrasound images looked a-ok, she advised me to get an amnio "just to make sure." When I said no to the amnio, she basically told me this was my only chance to know 100% if my baby had Down's Syndrome so then I would have time to "make my decision," that decision of course being whether to abort or continue my pregnancy. I told her I had already "made my decision" and would have and love and care for my child no matter what the circumstances.
I've read stats that say up to 80% of women whose tests come back positive for Down's Syndrome "choose" to abort. Very very sad.
