NYC Mayor Wants Windmills On Top of Skyscrapers; In The Ocean

NYC's Mayor Bloomberg yesterday proposed to develop wind turbines atop the Big Apple's bridges and skyscrapers.
The mayor also tossed out the possibility of building wind farms way out in the Atlantic Ocean, miles from shore, that he said could generate roughly twice the energy of similar land-based facilities and supply 10 percent of the city's electricity needs within a decade...

Of course it will only cost 10 times as much (minimum) as a coal-fired powerplant that would produce 10x the electricity but since Mikey B. is an idiot this doesn’t matter.
Why do we keep electing morons to public office?

Hypocrites.

Bloomberg is balmy. Everyone knows that.
He needs a windmill mounted atop his head to power the mechanical brain implanted to replace the one he was born with.

How long before those turbines and windmills on the skyscrapers start killing off the falcons and the other migratory birds and the environmentalist make us shut them down.

Had the GOP run an actual Republican in NYC, I would’ve voted for him (or her).

I know next to nothing about engineering, but it seems to be few, if any, of those tall buildings were designed to accomodate the huge stress a windmill would add to the structure. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not just the dead weight of the windmill but there's a tremendous load imposed by the wind pushing against the blades.

There is something wrong with Bloomberg. This is just not rational.
The engineering and expense to put a windmill out at see would be enormous.
Maintenance would be incledibly expensive. (Just half listeningint Dirty Jobs, the job was cleaning windmills, each one twice a week). Of course that was on land but one didn’t have to take a ship out there (burning fuel) to do it.
Would the benefit be greater than the cost?
Would they be in international waters?
How would they be protected from sabotage?
To: jwparkerjr
Bingo. This is pure fantasy unimpeded by any engineering knowledge.
