From the Saddleback forum transcript (sorry about all caps)...
Q WHATS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT LET ME ASK IT THIS WAY: WHATS THE MOST GUT WRENCHING DECISION YOUVE EVER HAD TO MAKE AND HOW DID YOU PROCESS THAT, COME TO THAT DECISION?
A WELL, YOU KNOW, I THINK THE OPPOSITION TO THE WAR IN IRAQ WAS AS TOUGH A DECISION THAT IVE HAD TO MAKE NOT ONLY BECAUSE THERE WERE POLITICAL CONSEQUENCES BUT ALSO BECAUSE SADDAM HUSSIEN WAS A BAD PERSON AND THERE WAS NO DOUBT THAT HE MEANT AMERICA ILL.
The fact that the most gut-wrenching decision he has ever made carried no personal consequences for himself or his family, but rather centered upon his political viability as a candidate. is telling indeed. He was an unknown state senator in Illinois, representing a district in Chicago with a strong antiwar constituency, including the likes of Pentagon bomber and Weather Underground leader William Ayers.
This one answer at Saddleback, more than any of the others, exposes Obama as a truly empty suit.

I call Hussein obama’s remarks the audacity of stupidity. Gut-wrenching doesn’t quite get it.
“Nukes News” is certainly better than “Neal’s Noize”
I think we will be able to look back on this forum as the night Obama lost the race.
In fairness to Obama, perhaps he misunderstood the question to be “What was the most gut ‘retching’ decision you had to make?” Thus, he gave an answer that was sure to make most who heard it engage in projectile vomiting.
Yep, the most gut wrenching decision has to do with his viability in politics. Interesting.........
Whether he really felt that deeply about the coming war at that time, the fact is that there were no real consequences for him. The worst thing that would have happened would be that he would lose an election. Losing elections happens in politics. It’s not the end of the world to lose an election.
That response sounds more like a no-brainer than a gut-wrenching decision. I bet throwing Rev. Wright under the bus was more gut-wrenching. What an idiot.
That is, until he's nominated.
As we all know Hussein obama did not vote on the war since he was not a senator at the time.
Saddam was a bad man. Wow, that about sums is up! This one is a real deep thinker.
Now if only McCain would tab Newt for VP and let Newt do his “nationalize the election” thing with DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW, giving something for the GOP candidates nationwide to sign on to and campaign on, we would squish the demos like a bug in November.
Gingrich is an enormously irritating personality. Putting him on the ticket would not help McCain.
Your perception may be he had an irritating personality—but that is your perception, not mine and not many others. What sets Newt apart is that he gets the job done. Think Contract with AMerica.
