NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico Texas officials cleared the way Monday for the execution of Jose Medellin, one of 51 Mexican nationals on U.S. death row, for his role with five other members of a Houston gang in the 1993 murder and rape of two teenage girls.
The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles on Monday rejected Medellin's request for a reprieve. Medellin, 33, is scheduled to die by lethal injection at 6 p.m. CDT today.
The decision violates the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, according to the International Court of Justice. President Bush ordered Texas to comply with that decision, but the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the treaty couldn't dictate state court actions.

Rick Perry told Sean Hannity yesterday it was 7-0 and he'd seen nothing to cause him to delay.I have repeatedly called the White House 1-202-456-1111 on behalf of Ramos & Compean--it is outrageous that Bush describes Johnny Sutton as a "good friend"--
The position of Bush and McCain on the Mexican invasion is 180 degrees out of phase--
Happy to see this Medellin get the needle--
--although I have many power tools which would create Jackson Pollack monochromatic exhibits filling large public areas--
The brutal rape and murder of American women by Mexican invaders elicits none of the proper response from those tasked to protect and defend--
These convictions were of Texas law, in the Texas Court system, they don't implicate any powers of the federal government. (which is why the Supreme Court held that US treaty obligations were of no avail to this miscreant).
Well, I was playing devil's advocate but the President's power to pardon trumps ANY law in the USA, states or territories.
“Calling him a Mexican National is pretty misleading.
“
He sure as Hell isn’t an American!
Every country has citizenship/nationality laws.If the government of Mexico recognizes him as being a Mexican citizen then he is.
I hope Texas doesn't bow to any pressure and executes that scumbag rapist killer!
Agreed. And it's sure looking like it's gonna happen.
Good riddance!
Thank you for sharing your opinion.
But that meskin deserved killing.
Just saying.
I guess you didn’t read the last line of my post where I said,” I hope Texas doesn’t bow to any pressure and executes that rapist scumbag”!
And they didn’t and now ole Jose is frying down below.
The reason that I posted what I did about calling him a Mexican National was that he spent his whole life here in the US and didn’t claim he was a Mexican until he was on death row. Kind of how OJ Simpson dissed the black community his whole life until he was arrested for murder then, became a brother overnight.
