It seems to me that if Obama’s mother was American, he’s American, no matter where born.

What is the supposition to the contrary?

HE POSTED A FORGERY on his website claiming it is a real certificate of live birth. It is not real. That ALONE should disqualify him, regardless of the place/status of his birth.

According to the law of the day, if Obama were born abroad with a foreign father, his mother would have had to have lived for at least five years in the US after the age of 16. So she would have had to be at least 21 for her son to automatically be born a citizen, and she was only 18 when he was born.

Hence the to-do about the birth certificate. If you could prove that Obama wasn't born in the US, he would not have been a "natural-born citizen" and hence he would be ineligible for the Presidency.

But it's such a stretch. Was his mother really going to get on a plane in those days and go half-way around the world to a country where she wasn't wanted -- while she was pregnant? Doesn't seem very likely at all.

Not true. Please go to Obama Truth File and review this. If he was not born in the USA the law at the time states that his natural born citizenship would be doubtful because his mother lacked residency requirements.

Not necessarily. In law, if he was not born in US territory (Kenya, maybe) of a foreign father, his mother has to have been previously an adult resident of an American territory for 5 years. When Hussein was born, Mama wasn't old enough to have been an adult resident of anywhere for 5 years. That said it is howling at the moon to think this all means anything. If proof of non-natural born status were to suddenly be irrefutable, Congress would instantly pass a law making the candidates officially natural-born-citizens. The Democrats would have no problem with someone born and raised in France of indisputable and exclusively French bloodlines running for president of the US if he were properly socialist. The only hangup would be in getting a majority of Americans to vote for such a one.
