I was under the opinion that back in the 60’s, black people were referred to as Negro.

They might have just recorded whatever information was provided by the mother. If Ann Dunham said “African”, perhaps that’s what they put down.
I must admit I still don’t feel I know whether the Obama web birth certificates come from a genuine source or not.

LOVE IT!! Roger Whittaker has long been my example. Why, if he moved permanently to the United States, he’d be an African American! Wouldn’t that be a hoot??
I think that since Obama Sr. was a citizen of Kenya, Africa, and not a U.S. citizen, his "RACE" would not be listed as NEGRO or BLACK, in light of your Roger Whittaker fact. The question that should be answered is "How did Hawaii classify the different races of SOUTH AFRICA?
