Sorry if there were any spelling errors. I was in a rush to do it on the Bangor library computer. I did manage to do some spell check so it's better now.

I have been saying this for years, just not calling the little ones brats. I’ve used the same terminilogy as disease du juor. First it was asthma, then it was Attention Deficit Disorder, and now it’s autism. All of these diseases are subjective diagnoses by the physicians who diagnose them, so it is easy to say that this child has the newest disease, and whamo, the Mom gets a disability check per child. It also seems that more than one child per family all has the disease. If they weren’t getting the disability checks, I wouldn’t be so cynical about it, and would give the benefit of the doubt that there is a problem with the health of the children in minority families.

If instead of 99.9 %, as D*ckhead stated, the real number is 1.9 %, does that make Savage basically right? Since he picked the MOST severest form of neurological disorder there is, could he possibly be guilty of the most severest type of demagoguery ? Or is he just a plain moron?

The PC crowd screams and Savage gets nailed. He was right about HIV and he is right about this.

>> “They don’t have a father around to tell them, “Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.”

Savage, don’t act like a moron. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming. Idiot.

Maybe he needed to hear it again.

This man is not good for the conservatism. He’s a lunatic, poorly-reasoned, manic-depressive, perpetually angry, and prone to shooting his mouth off thoughtlessly (like in this case, for instance). He’s a general ass. We’d be better off without him.

My problem with his comments is the over the top 99% figure.

I think there is a lot of over diagnosis of autism, Asperger's, and ADD. Or maybe more accurately many people try and group people with mild versions of symptoms that might indicate those disorders in with those having those disorders.

Most people at some time in their lives exhibit some such symptoms to some extent.

I have what would now be diagnosed as pretty serious ADD as a child and still have it to some extent now. I made it through school all the way through college and graduate school without being medicated or treated for it.

It wasn't always easy, and medication might have helped, but I did just fine thanks to having good dedicated parents who encouraged me to work hard and succeed.

I got through without medication due to having the support and encouragement I needed from good parents. I don't think I could have succeeded nearly as well with medication, but without that support.

There is a lot of truth to saying that what a lot of these kids really need is good parenting. At least it was true regarding me.

The reason that autism is being over diagnosed is money. The schools get more money. The doctors get more money. Those doing autism research get more money. Companies doing developing autism drugs and treatments see their stocks going up.

The other reason is that parents want someone to tell them that the problems they are having with their children aren't their fault. That may very well be true in some cases, but it is still the parents that can do the most for those children. We need parents to recognize that having a child with such difficulties isn't an excuse to say they it's not their fault their children have more troubles than others. It's an indication that they are going to have to work harder to help their children succeed in life.

Some parents get that and do their best. Some don't.

For kids that have parents that don't, good teachers and medical professionals can help some, but they simply aren't a replacement for good parents.

There is a commercial featuring actors and musicians where they state that Autism affects 1 of every 163 (IIRC) kids is diagnosed with Autism. First thing I said to my wife was, “What are they using to define it”?

When my son turned 12 he entered an in depth music program for gifted youth.

He was different in the sense that he loved classical music and playing music, but also he did not always feel comfortable in a classroom setting.

He definitely was hyper and talked alot, but I didn't think much of it. That's when people around me began to question whether he should be tested for ADD.

After some time and different advice, I asked my pediatrician what he thought. Luckily for me, Dr. Berman, now in his 90s and still practicing, was a good old fashioned doctor, and sat me in a chair, and asked me what I thought, not what others were telling me.

I told him flat out that I thought my son was fine. He agreed. My son just graduated the Juilliard School of Music, go figure, without any ADD drug help.

I have been listening to Savage on this.. If Savage goes too far in his outrage that beats not going far enough.. Since the problem exists because this is getting little or attention at all by "professional people" especially medical people.. including insurance/financial and government entity's..

Savage seems to "trying" to build a fire under these entity's.. by exciting the "villagers" to "torches"..

I say God bless him.. AT least its a good distraction from the Presidency being stolen by wild eyed socialists in 2008.. which will exacerbate a plethora of other issues.. SOON..

I don't blame him for wanting a distraction from the pitiful political climate.. Where the wild eyed Moonbats are threatening to gain almost absolute political power in Washington D.C... With both candidates being not only socialists but globalists to boot.. Savage is not a Limbaugh, Hannity or Levin he has "hard earned" two masters degrees and a PHD to his credit he is a veritable "scientist" even an "expert" on THIS subject... He not just anybody..

A family that lived four houses from me had a child who was diagnosed as autistic when a very young boy. They refused the diagnosis out of hand and raised the child as any attentive parents would. He’s a well-adjusted very normal teenager - and not showing the least symptoms of what could be considered autistic. And this is not the only case I have heard of. (in fairness it’s not the only case of a misdiagnosis of other conditions I’ve heard of, either)

So where 99% is an extreme # there’s a significant amount of truth to what he says. Replace “99%” with “a significant number” and suddenly the context is changed. I believe what he said is based in definite truth. How he said it, well, that’s why we’re here.

Isn’t Michael Savage more than a shock jock? I remember reading somewhere that he’s an M.D.

my Niece who works with kids brought this up, she mentioned that her dad, my brother, has Asperger syndrome. She seemed a bit suprised when I could not restrain myself from laughing.

Asperger is another name for shy, its a personality trait not a disorder! Still I doubt that 99% of cases are fake but there are certainly kids being labeled as sick that are not broken in any way and that can have an effect on their self perception for life..

Don’t you DARE rip Dr. Jay Gordon. He is one of the most caring doctors I know. He will call, on his own time, parents of sick kids who aren’t even his patients, and ask how they are doing. He is on a parenting email loop and offers his expert, kind, decent care and advice freely. He is far more interested in healthy, whole children than in the drugs and vaccines so often pushed down pediatricians’ throats. He is a gem among physicians.
