Democrats Love Expensive Gas; It Restricts Driving . . . and Freedom

Gasoline is at over $4 a gallon in late summer of an election year. Once upon a time, incumbent congressmen and senators would have reacted to this about as well as Dracula to sunlight and crucifixes. And they would have rushed to get prices lower by the first Tuesday in November, so as to best protect their precious re-elections.

But not this year. Democrats have stopped all attempts to increase domestic drilling with the ruthless efficiency of The Terminator. On its face, this would seem to be an insane and suicidal move. Even with a biased mainstream media giving them cover and a completely gutless and impotent Republican Party, this might just be a bridge too far.

Yet here we are, with Democrats stopping at nothing to keep gas prices as high as possible, and even coming up with a bill that would actually restrict drilling even further, by halving land lease periods and more than doubling the lease extension cost. Naturally, they lie and obfuscate to present it as somehow increasing drilling, when in fact it's the opposite.

In past years, Democrats would never dare try such a thing and if they stupidly did, the GOP would thank the heavens and unload on them mercilessly for it. That the former are and the latter are not speaks volumes as to what is really going on and what the stakes really are for you and me.

Bluntly put, the Democrats like expensive gas. They would be happy to see it get even more so, especially if the proceeds get taxed away to them and not left in the private sector. Why? Because they are totalitarians at heart, and the environmentalist wackos so prevalent within their base are of a particularly noxious hard-core strain.

“why? because they are totalitarians at heart, and the environmentalist wackos so prevalent within their base are of a particularly noxious, hard-core strain.?”

it’s such a shame that a majority of the electorate hates business and thinks that these people represent a move toward social justice. (actually, it’s not a shame, it’s downright scary.)

it is also a shame that the english language, or any language for that matter, can never come close to adequately describing the slimy duplicity of left wing organizations and communist democrats in the u.s. congress. (such low-life swine.)

IMHO

Members of congress get a lot of special privileges that the common herd doesn’t get.

They don’t care if we have to pay big bucks for gas.

It restricts driving, forces conservation, but most importantly it gives them an excuse to raise gas taxes. All they live for is to gain more control over your and my money.

Speaking of restricting freedom to travel: this would be a good opportunity to remind everyone of one of the directives in Hillary-Care. It surfaced late and if I remember correctly, was one of the biggest reasons for it's defeat when the public discovered it was in the proposal.

Everyone was to be assigned a primary care physician and no one would be allowed to go to any other doctor for any reason. So, if you were away from home and became ill, it would be illegal for you to go to another doctor in the area you were visiting.

Maybe enough of an uproar would have ensued and changed that part of the mandate, but it goes to the issue of how badly these people in charge want to control us. I, too, believe one of the reasons Pelosi and Co. want to keep gas prices artificially high is because it's a good way to control our freedom to travel. The push for mass transit would restrict people to areas close to home, too. Of course, important people like them would have no restrictions on their travel.

The fight to drill off-shore, drill ANWR, build refineries, build nuclear power plants and finally become truly energy independent (meaning not requiring it from elsewhere, as opposed to the liberal enviro-wacko definition of being independent of energy – i.e., not having any at all) is a fight for our nation's soul and future. And if no one on the political scene has the guts to stand in the gap, then it falls to us as citizens.

If your vote for a Dem or a Pubbie results in the same bad energy policy, then what is left for citizen action?

A couple weeks ago the hosts on the WGN (Chicago) drive time radio show were very enthused about the “positives” of high gas prices, opening hoping for higher prices so that people would drive less and presumably move into high rises clustered around mass transit and bike routes. Soviet style prosperity.

Reminds me of my liberal, tree hugger manager I worked for, he got upset that you wanted to use your vacation time. He also required you to get permission to leave town as well for your vacation and demanded contact information.

Thanks for the links.

I was arguing with a liberal this weekend and I needed a few of those to shove into his face. He was talking about Algore wanting the US to be totally dependent on solar and wind power.

I asked him if he had attended the NUTcase convention in Austin. Of course he hadn’t, but I told him Algore was there and flew in on a JETSTREAM jet.

Then I asked him if he would take the first test with Algore on a solar or wind powered airplane. He had the most STUPID look on his face. It was way beyond the “deer in the headlight” look. He knew he had been had.
