Every once in a while, there is a news story that so perfectly illustrates one of today's political absurdities, no made-up illustration could ever be so effective.
According to Michael Graham's article, "Bank unduly scapegoated": "activists for the newest civil right - the right to skip your mortgage payments - have taken to the streets of Roxbury." The protest is over the fact that a bank that loaned a certain Paula Taylor, $260,000 to buy a condo, now, "actually want her to pay it back!"
If you think this is absurd, the politicians are on the side of Paula Taylor and the "skip-your-mortgage-payment" activists. According to Mr. Graham:
"In Congress, Republicans and Democrats are pushing Barney Franks $300 billion boondoggle to underwrite bad loans given to worse customers. On Beacon Hill, [Boston] Gov. Deval Patrick pushed for a $250 million bailout for people who borrowed more than they could afford. (Sen. Barack Obama has a similar $10 billion idea he must have 'borrowed' from Patrick)."
If you have the idea that these schemes violate every principle of honesty and integrity you hold, if you think this is one of the worst transfer-of-wealth schemes you've ever heard of, if you regard this as outright socialist paternalism, you are one of those Barack Obama has identified as unfit for his kind of society. You actually believe in absolute principles, such as right and wrong, and personal responsibility. How dare you!?
Michael Knox Beran, explains in his excellent article, "Obama, Shaman:"
"Obama makes it clear that there is no place, in the politics he advocates, for those 'absolutists' who would defy the community. The 'ideological core of today's GOP,' he writes, is 'absolutism, not conservatism,' an absolutism driven by those who prize 'absolute truth' over 'communal values.' This commitment to absolute truth, he argues, stands in the way of a politics that can solve our problems and change our lives.
It is this total lack of any principles, much less absolute ones, illustrated by Obama's socialist ideology, which pervades every segment of society he appeals to, which makes the absurdity of the original story possible. I cannot speak for anyone else, but I prize "absolute truth" above all other things, and regard phrases like, "communal values," lying obfuscations intended to put over something absolutely wrong, and very very bad
Yeah, the’re RICH and can afford it! They owe it to me. I want free food, free gas, free housing, medical and dental, a nice car, free internet and TV with Tivo, and a fine liberal whine!
