Never mind, as long as you support drilling, all this is really secondary!
...of course, I supported ALL drilling, mining, more nucl. / hydo. elec. plants, oil refineries/pipelines (proven energy developments) ever since the (Marxist) Eco-terrorists and their Congressional Lackeys started "*itching" about them.....in the '80s & Jimmah "Malaise" Carter.....FULL SPEED AHEAD!

Drilling and Pipelines are still the smallest source.
Yea, and NATURAL SEEPAGE is the highest. Choke on that enviro-wackos!

Save the environment.
Drill and relieve the pressure to cut down on the seepage.

” Exploration must be at least 50 miles from coast”
No way, federal waters start 3 miles off the coast.
Drill and get the oil!
As far as So. California, tell the immigrant Austrian and his enviromental nuts to go F themselves!

Well, let’s see - 50 miles off shore on the only coastline that Voinovich’s state (Ohio) has would likely be Canadian waters. Why a senator from Ohio should have any say in any other shore is beyond me.

Because we are one of the states that needs both coal and oil...! But, you're from TN so what you think doesn't weigh in on the conversation anyway. Can't tell why a you would care or be interested in Ohio.

Alright, your just not communicating your point well to me.
To: KC_Conspirator
I'm sorry FRiend, let me try again here:
The comment was that it was wished that the GOP would focus more on pocketbook issues, the economy, issues affecting the average worker, and my comment about Mussolini and Hitler was made in the vein of their respective fascist regimes promising the people that they would put food in their bellies, make the trains run on schedule, provide full employment, etc., and I suppose I was trying to draw a contrast between those 'home town issues' (that I agree are relevant and valid), with the greater issues of national security and foreign policy.
IOW, once the German and Italian people were essentially bought off with full bellies and full employment, they for the most part became indifferent to what those regimes were doing in regards to the rest of the world.
In our case, I think that Americans as a whole need to focus more on the many enemies and adversaries poised to kick us in the groin if they get half a chance, than worrying exclusively about economic issues. I'm not saying those economic issues aren't important and worthy of discussion, but there is much more that the average American worker ought to be worrying about, over and above what happens in his own neighborhood and over his breakfast table.
Did that help any?

Actually, Ohio has a fair supply of coal, which is why FirstEnergy and AEP have many power plants down in the southeast corner of the state. And there is a little oil, though not much. I would say that Ohio needs oil, as Tennessee does, but has a respectable amount of coal as Tennessee does (if you're looking for an abundance of coal, you might try Kentucky or West Virginia).
I actually AM from Ohio, and spent my first 40 years of life there. So what I think does weigh in on the conversation (actually, the first amendment allows me to weigh in on the conversation regardless of which state I am "from", but you already knew that).
I knew Voinovich when he took over as mayor of Cleveland, replacing the inept Dennis Kucinich. He was a hero of sorts, straightening out a city that was bankrupt and horribly managed. He drew businesses back into the city after Dennis-the-menace chased several corporate headquarters out of town. I watched him work his way into the Senate, and I even voted for him back in the day.
But all that is irrelevant - a Senator from Ohio really ought not be helping decide if drilling is to be done off shore in another state. Why don't we let North Carolina decide if they should drill off the North Carolina shore, and Florida decide if they should drill off the shore of Florida? Frankly, and to the point, Voinovich really doesn't have a dog in this race (other than drilling off-shore will lower the cost of gasoline for his constituency). One really should think about whether or not a Senator from one state ought to have voting privileges regarding activities in another state.

Yeah, Mussolini made the trains run on time and Nazi Germany had full employment.... And neither understood the economy and neither gave a fat rat's backside about their constituency's pocket book.
