Part 1: It's The White Guy's Fault...Revisited

Author's Note: When I first wrote this series over a year ago, RFFM.org received some criticism about my viewpoint on the issue. In fact, one reader demanded that his name be removed from the e-mail list. Since then, of course, we have become aware, via various media and Internet sources, of a long series of “white guy” blaming from several leftist groups. This non-exclusive list includes Rev. Jeremiah Wright from Sen. Barack Obama’s former church, Father Pfleger also preaching (or rather screeching) from Wright’s pulpit and former (or maybe still) Obama friend--Pentagon bomber Bill Ayers...

For some time I have been saying that we romanticize the poor in this country and demonize the successful. With some notable exceptions, the poor are poor by their own actions. The poor are too poor to buy books and reading material for their kids, but somehow find enough money for $200 sneakers and an X-box. Parents jump to defend their kids when a teacher says they're not working up to their potential yet get angry at the teacher when the child doesn't get good grades. It's always the teacher's fault, not the child. The poor have been conditioned to accept the “I'm a victim” mentality as offered by Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al. They accept no responsibility for their own plight. The rich guy is the bad guy. Really?

Take a piece of paper and make two columns. Label the columns “Rich” and “Poor”. Now under each column, list the good things each does. For example, under Rich, you might enter: job creation, capital formation, innovation, invention, support for the arts, charitable contributions, and so on. Under Poor, you might enter:...I can't think of a thing. The Rich drive this system and make it possible for the rest of us to live and thrive...if we choose to do so. Rather than work hard in school and invest in themselves, the poor prefer to stand on the sidelines and point fingers saying: It's your fault I'm poor. Sorry, pal, it's not my fault. With relatively few exceptions, your bad decisions along the way have made you what you are and I'm not taking the blame for it any more. Further, I'll do everything I can to end the entitlements system that lets you drain the economic system without ever a thought of paying it back. Enough’s enough...you're on your own.
