We are about to have a world war.

http://alanpetersnewsbriefs.blogspot.com/2008/08/massive-us-naval-armada-heads-for-iran.html

What happens if the Russians and/or Chinese decide to use their warships to escort commercial ships into/out of islamic iranian ports to break the blockade? Do we fire on them? If we sink some, or they sink some of ours, then what?

There is a Persian saying “the sleep of a rabbit”, meaning snoozing while danger is about to strike from a hawk or an eagle or other predator. In other words not being aware(smile)

Time for all of us to wake up.

cheers

I happened on a wake-up event yesterday, of a sort. The current US generation has almost no idea how devastating and huge a nuclear explosion could be. Perhaps all the movie FX have dulled them to the seriousness of it. I'm talking a megaton or worse blast, G-d forbid. They have no idea!

No wonder there's little alarm about Russia, and a general uproar about Iran, the terror state, having significant nukes.

There's no market for that alarm.

That is scary ...

We are involved in a World War, or the opening phases of it and have been since 9-11 and, as with World Wars a major consideration of the combatants is persuading certain other nations not to enter. This is the Islamic War and has been bubbling since 1979. We cannot avoid it by not taking on Iran directly. We can only make the thing worse by delaying the necessary and we have delayed a lot already.

FARS, I would have liked to see you post this as a thread rather than sticking/hiding it inside an existing thread.

I think quite a few folks would like to comment on this large naval movement.

As the article indicates, we had larger "armadas" in the same places during the Gulf War and in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Free Iraq.

We are still operating against the Taliban and Al Quida in Afghanistan, and we certainly want the mullahs in Iran to be aware of our capabnilities.

Unless a blockade is called, then those vessels presence there is not an act of war. It is just a strong message, and probably will be heavily used in Afghanistan. They are also available should the command authority decide actions are required against Iran.

I hope it does not come to that, but also do not believe we can allow the Iranians and their fundamental islamic/fascist government to obtain nuclear weapons, particularly in light of the comments of their president as regards Israel and the US. I do not believe that either the Russians or Chinese would try to interfere with their naval forces in such an event.

I also note that there is some significant speculation in the article as regards the British and some of our own groups. We will have to wait and see what actually gathers or comes together and stays put when the vessels get there. There could also be some relief on station going on when one or two groups return to the US once their replacements get there.

FARS, I’m afraid you’ve already considered something that Obama has not yet even conceived of as a possible threat.

Sad. Incredibly, sad. And quite a bit scary.

Except for submarines, the Soviets... er, Russians don’t have much that can serve as an escort for anything. Subs don’t make great escorts and their surface fleet doesn’t like to get too far from home port in case they need to be towed home.

If we declare a blockade, it is an act of war to attempt to break it.

As for the Chinese, their navy is not much more capable than the Russians at this time. Besides, their saving those marbles for the invasion of Taiwan. It would do to get them shot up over Iran when their getting ready to start pump oil off the shores of Florida.
