Missing from this article - is the question of why “African” is shown as race — when “African” is NOT a description of race, nor was that term likely to have been used in that era.

The common terms in that era would have been Negro, Colored or Black.

Secondly — even if the Certificate currently under scrutiny is a forgery, I suspect the Obama mania and reach is capable of “creating” a perfectly “legal” and “official” certificate to replace the current document..

You make good points, except that releasing the fraudulent electronic bc itself is problematic. Hawaii didn't use "African" as a race in the 1960's, for example, and the released bc has no folds from being mailed or certification stamp embossed, as another.

Obama may, as you point out, be able to release his actual real paper bc...but it won't match...can't...match the electronic version posted on Daily Kos due to the above examples.

So even releasing his actual bc won't help him. That would just bring up the question as to why a fake bc was posted on Daily Kos and "verified" on Obama's campaign web site as "Real."

I haven't seen any thing authorative. What I did seen claimed his father was 7/8 Arab. If so, his father's race could plausibly be given as white or Causcasian, undermining Urkel's creds as an authentic African American. (Depicted below riding a bike with a flat rear tire)

BTW, I think a lot of older blacks resent people "passing" (as white) who are "really" black. Think of what they are gonna think of a white who is passing for black.

That's politically naive. Millions upon millions of American voters are centrists who pay little attention to politics, but who wouldn't vote for someone who can't show that he's a U.S. citizen.

Even bringing up the *potential* of such an issue cost Goldwater a large percentage of votes in 1964, and he even scored a SCOTUS ruling in his favor to help put the matter to rest.

Personally, I see this whole issue as a smokescreen to make Obama a “victim,” a ploy right out of Saul Alinsky.

Democrats are very effective painting themselves as “victims” and conservatives too often fall for it, spreading rumors hoping they have teeth.

In the meantime, while desperate searches continue looking for Birth Certificates, Muslim connections and what have you, his Marxist Roots and values receive little attention.

I imagine that if the Right suddenly dropped the Birth Certificate matter, the Obama camp would release something to stir it up again.

Politics is perception, not reality. If this guy won’t produce his birth certificate then he cannot (or declines to-) prove he is a citizen. The accusation then becomes, “You say you’re a citizen, prove it.”

The other issue-arguments aren’t obviated or somehow diminished by this matter. It’s like saying if you challenge Obama on energy policy then you can’t ever challenge him on foregn policy. It’s politics. It’s ALL fair game.

So, I say the guy isn’t a citizen. And I say that’s a fairly significant problem for him.

However, the digital certificate that everybody is micro-dissecting did not come from the Obama campaign.

It came from the Daily Kos. (I don't want this post deleted by Admin Moderator for "Daily Kos links not welcomed at FR" reasons so just Google "Obama's birth certificate, by kos, Thu Jun 12, 2008 at 08:44:37 AM PDT" and you will hit the origin of the digital birth certificate in question.)

In addition, I would not put too much stock on the "African is not a race" issue as "race" was a rather loosely used term before the mid-1960's.

On another thread, one poster posted the Daily Kos digital birth certificate and, besides it, posted a genuine certificate (belonging to somebody other than Obama) for comparison in order to show how the Daily Kos certificate lacked the embossed seal, etc., etc.

The funny thing was that the "genuine" certificate that was posted listed the "Race" of the father as "White" but listed the "Race" of the mother as "Caucasian Hawaiian".

Since when is "Caucasian Hawaiian" a race?

It seems that Mainland Whites were listed on Hawaiian birth certificates as being of the "White" race and Hawaiian-born Haoles were listed as being of the "Caucasian Hawaiian" race.

So, place of origin did play a role in what was listed under "Race". Just as a White born on California was listed under "Race" as simply "White" but a White born in Honolulu was listed as a ""Caucasian Hawaiian", a Black born in California may have been listed as simply "Negro", a Black born in Hawaii may have been listed as "Negro Hawaiian" and a Black African born in African may have been listed as simply "African".

Also, while searching through a friend's Ancestry.com account for records of U.S. entries by my family in the 1910's, 1920's and 1930's (my grandfather and my father both studied in the U.S.) the "Race" of my blond and blue-eyed grandfather and father were listed as "Cuban" on the U.S. Customs logs.

There is no such thing as a "Cuban" race any more than there is a "Canadian" race, but, there it was, put there by a U.S. Government employee.

Notice on Obama's official site, his birth certificate says OHBM 1.1 in the lower left corner.

The original document displayed on the Daily KOS website says OHSM 1.1 in the lower left corner.

The million dollar question is: If the Daily KOS document was supplied by a Obama campaign staffer, as was reported, then how on earth can these two documents differ?

There may be a Hawaiian state agency or department with the initials 'OHBM', but I'm not aware of any.

The agency that you request a copy of a birth certificate from is the 'Office of Health Status Monitoring', OHSM.

I suspect the document was doctored in some fashion, but not totally manufactured. It is my recollection that in the 1960’s if the birth mother was not married, the father’s name was listed as ‘unknown.’ This was routinely done even if the father was indeed known.

Further, the child’s surname would have been, in that case, ‘Dunham,’ and not Obama. With an Anglo name like that, it is my further speculation that the birth mother actually named him Barry, this being buttressed by the fact that he was known as Barry in his early youth. So at some point he was able to produce something that changed his name, or he just started using a different name, and that was honored.

Personally, I have done name changes for people late in life whose names as used in life differed significantly from their birth records and made social security or a deed or other old document an issue.

But then the real question comes around again that there is a fundamental lack of integrity in this man that surfaces again and again. He knows that the public reaction to Hillary’s misspeaking about Bosnian sniper fire was devastating. It was understandable by the general populace. Altering a public document, and a prosecutor could argue that even blacking out the certificate number is such an alteration, is a criminal fraud. Everyone will understand that.

A lie is still a lie.
