Thanks for that link with the text. I had heard the audio, but never read the speech before. That speech is still the embodiment of everything the Republican party should be.

"The Speech" was not given at the convention.
It was pre-recorded and broadcast on television a week or so before the election.

(I'm old enough to remember the convention, campaign and speech.)
IIRC, the Goldwater campaign didn't pay for the television time. They didn't want it broadcast.
