Associated Press publishes a blatant lie (Valerie Plame)

In this article detailing Scott ‘Wormtongue the Sellout’ McClellan’s moments of C-SPAN glory in front of a panel of partisan hacks on Capitol Hill today, the opening paragraph (which I won’t quote directly, you can read for yourselves) states that McClellan is claiming he was instructed to say that Cheney and Libby weren’t involved in the leakage of Valerie Plame’s employment status with the CIA, and then goes on to state that such an assertion (their lack of involvement) is false.

Excuse me, AP reporter and fact transmogrifying reporter Laurie Kellman, but ever heard of someone named Richard Armitage? You know, the Richard Armitage that both admitted publicly, long after the bonfire of the idiocies over the entire kerfuffle was in full conflagration, that he was the one that mentioned Plame to Robert Novak. Remember? The Richard Armitage that Robert Novak confirmed was his source for the story, after Armitage went public?

Hello?

Do you recall that the “involvement” of Cheney and Libby was basically being bombarded with questions by reporters trying to figure out (before Armitage came forward) who’d passed along the information - and that they basically responded with ‘wouldn’t know anything about it’ or ‘I hadn’t heard that’ as their answers? And that the basis of Libby’s trial was a discrepency in Libby’s description of events from different recountings (grand jury and investigators) of the precise wording of the way he dodged the questions from those same reporters?

Look it up. Do some research. Re-read the source materials on the subject.

Or, maybe you have, and you just really don’t care, because it makes McClellan’s backstabbing for dollars story oh that much more scintillating.

It is a tough call, determining if it’s incompetence and stupidity as opposed to intentional mischief. The case is pretty compelling for a combination of both.

No doubt McClellan and Plame have bank accounts in the same neighborhood bank. Zurich.

You didn’t mention Rove, but he has said that when it was stated to him by a reporter that Wilson’s wife worked for CIA which might explain why Wilson was chosen for his Niger mission, he replied that “I’ve heard that, too.”

And he had heard that about Wilson’s wife - that she was CIA.

He also said, though, that he tried to steer reporters away from getting out front and writing articles on that issue.

Point is, liars can always find some hook to hang a lie on.

Sorry, but I hadn’t read up on what Cheney or Libby claimed to have said when the subject was broaçhed to them.

I know Libby had to talk about that and there’s a record.

Wasn’t aware Cheney ever had to make a claim one way or the other. Maybe I missed something.

Anyway, AP and Scott McClellan and ALL the Media for that matter want people to forget about Armitage and come to believe that Libby was convicted for leaking, when he was not even charged with that, and no others than Libby were charged with ANYTHING.

never allow facts to get in the way of a good story

From a political cartoon

Over heard at the Justice Department

Joe Wilson lied.
So, you went after Wilson?
Nope, Bob Novak revealed Plame’s identity in his column.
So, you went after Novak?
Well no, Richard Armitage leaked her information to Novak.
So, you went after Armitage?
No, as it turns out Plame WASN’T really a covert agent.
So, you’re dropping the case?
No, I’m going after Libby.
Libby, what about the others?

Why does it seem that Richard Armitage is being protected by both the Right and the Left of the political spectrum. The media acts as if Armitage never admitted he was the source of the Plame leak. Fizgerald, knowing who the leak was, goes after someone else and the lefty bloggers are still pointing fingers at Cheney and Bush.
Meanwhile, the various accused Republicans never mention that Armitage is the guy they really want.
Why is Armitage getting a pass from everybody. He can't have compromising pictures of everybody, can he?
