FR Should Have an Appeals Process
06/14/2008 | Soliton

Posted on 06/14/2008 10:03:59 PM PDT by Soliton

I have been a member since 1999. I have been suspended at least twice and kicked off "for good" once. I deserved to be suspended once.

I believe that FR is a force for good in the world. Debate between people who consider themselves conservative, right or wrong, is a good thing.

I believe that FR would prosper more, that more would donate, if they really believed that they had a stake in the site. The risk, that I now expose myself to, that you can be booted forever for speaking your honestly conservative mind in accordance with the rules, can be stifling.

I suggest an appeals board consisting of long-term FReepers with differing views. They would enforce or overturn suspensions and bannings upon review based on the stated rules. They could even levy a reinstatement charge. At least it would be democratic in the conservative tradition.

Saundra, you are a welcome oasis in a sea of irrationality.

I look forward to your posts on the FLDS :).

So, let's see, again, you're back on the liberal takings viewpoint. You want something for nothing. Pony up the dough for people to sit around and review suspensions. Probably 100k a year or so would do, to secure a board of 5 people, since it'd be just a part time job.

How about seven volunteers who have been freepers for seven years or more?

You are advocating anarchy, which is anathema to most conservatives.

Dude, like look up the word "anarchy" man

Interesting suggestion, probably won’t go anywhere.

Someone needs to take that “This is Sparta gif” and have it say “this is FR”

Like a retread on a old pair of tires. Or with your manner I should say set as pair implies two.

It's funny that people see at as a revolution or anarchy. Jim appoints the board (somebody ping him) and he accepts or rejects their recommendation. It's a growth issue, not a revolution. It's delegation not abdication.

I think Jim already has a process he uses for picking moderators, and has a method of handling his moderators, and overseeing them.

Since you don’t pay for the site, you are basically a guest of JimRob and are taking up his bandwidth. So either tow the line or get out, it is that simple.

"I don't speak Fichorianese; what do you mean by "retread"?"

You've been registered since 1999 and you don't know what a retread is?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retread

On FR, a retread is someone who, after getting banned, signs up again as a different user.

What name did you use before the name 'Soliton'?

If you took the time to check my name and profile, you would see I was Soliton in 1999.

Since you have only been here for 3 months and know old FR lingo, are you a retread?

First, don’t call me dude.
Second, I know what anarchy means. You are advocating anarchy where anything goes as long as you can make an appeal to ignore your inconsiderate behavior after the fact.

As long as you say your sorry, thats all that matters because its feelings, not actions that are important. </s>

Thank you for including me but I have to disagree. I am more than happy to leave it to Jim Rob and the Admin. After all, if I disagree with them, I can go and start my own service. Jim is the last appeal, he started this place and it is his. He is kind enough to share it with us as long as we don’t mess it up to much.

"If you took the time to check my name and profile, you would see I was Soliton in 1999."
That does not prove you were not signed up before 1999.

"Since you have only been here for 3 months and know old FR lingo, are you a retread?"
Your the one claiming to have been kicked off "for good".

Perhaps you would like to ping the moderator and ask him/her to confirm that you were officially welcomed back after your being kicked off "for good".
