Laura Ingraham Radio Absence Still Mysterious: AWKWARD MOMENTS

Ingraham Takes Award, Doesn't Explain Radio Silence *** WITH IMPORTANT UPDATED DETAILS ***

Less than a week after her sudden absence from the radio airwaves, syndicated talker Laura Ingraham found herself in a truly awkward position while picking up a radio industry award Saturday evening.

And today, the mystery over her program's fate has only deepened.

During the 2008 New Media Seminar, a talk radio convention held in Manhattan, Ingraham received the "Judy Jarvis Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions by a Woman to Talk Radio".

Touching on her past accomplishments in talk radio, Ingraham gave a brief speech to attendees, which included your Radio Equalizer. But she had not a word to say about her broadcast disappearing act.

Standing just a few feet away was Talk Radio Network honcho Mark Masters, whose firm syndicates Ingraham. Regardless of any potential conflict that may have emerged between the two parties, neither said anything during the ceremony. Nonetheless, one could feel a certain amount of tension.

During the convention, many attendees approached your Radio Equalizer looking for information about her fate. But the biggest clue to date has come from Ingraham herself, with this note now posted on her website (UPDATE-- it's been removed from the site):

IMPORTANT NOTE TO LAURA LISTENERS

Due to contractual obligations, for the present time I am unable to reveal why I am not currently hosting The Laura Ingraham Show. Rest assured, this absence is not of my choosing, nor is it health or family related. I am ready, willing and eager to continue the conversation we started seven years ago about politics and the culture. (Heck, if cancer couldn't keep me off the airwaves for long, nothing will.)

Keep checking the site for a schedule of my appearances on the Fox News Channel. All queries regarding my on-air status should be directed to Talk Radio Network's management at 541 474 2297 or send an email. Thanks for sticking with me, and...Power to the People!

Earlier this evening, your Radio Equalizer contacted a reliable industry source who backed up Ingraham's version of events. Discounting earlier rumors that Laura had abandoned her own show, possibly to take a Fox News Channel slot, the insider said "she didn't walk off anything".

As to the reason for the possible lockout by her network, others speculate it's related to rumors she's been shopping her program to other syndicators in advance of her contract's upcoming expiry date.

Stay tuned for further details.

UPDATE: according to an industry source, Ingraham may have brought some of her troubles upon herself by possibly violating the terms of her contract: "Laura was 'locked out' because she's been negotiating secretly with individual Citadel-ABC program directors to get on their stations in the event they lose Sean Hannity. She's looking to make $4 million a year, far more than her show currently generates in terms of revenue.

"She was operating behind the back of Mark Masters and the Citadel-ABC people have been talking to her. She does not want to quit radio, quite the contrary. She really wants TV, too," said the insider.

Ingraham is apparently looking to move her show into a live midmorning slot on key ABC talk stations should Hannity leave the company, as many expect. This scenario would see hosts from WABC, WMAL/ Washington and WBAP/ Dallas slide into afternoon drive slots.

So apparently you are one of those who thinks the perfect should stand in the way of the good. Since Laura isn’t married, that child should still be in an orphanage waiting for a perfect family to come.
It’s a good thing she’s doing. It’s not perfect. Maybe the child will have a father some day. Even if she doesn’t, maybe when she grows up, you can ask her if she would like for Laura never to have rescued her.
Your question is pure sophistry. Laura is not one or two flaming homosexual men. She’s not Rosie O’Doughnuts and her “wife”. People are individuals. Every situation is different. Be happy for the kid and for Laura. She doesn’t need the holier-than-thou crowd second guessing her.

Until more heterosexual couples step up and take in children from orphanages singles like Laura will have to take up the slack and give these children homes. I guarantee that if every heterosexual couple signed up for the foster care program here in the US and took in one or more children there would be no children left to go to homosexual couples.

RINO. Hannity is not a conservative. He supported Rudy a liberal gun-grabbing, abortionist. So what if he can get things done. Not things I want. Take your northeast, Rockefeller, RINO candidates and ruin your own part of the world and quit trying to spread your all inclusive “we love everyone no matter what they support politics around to the rest of the country” agenda you pansy.

He talks about how he “won’t stand for blah blah...” all the while calling the likes of Conyers and Schumer great Americans and his friends. He is a hack with no metal to actually call liberal politicians on the carpet on the air.

Go away.

You sure you’ve listened to Mark Levin? His show is only 2 hours.

Support a RINO ( Rudy ) over more conservative candidates that makes you a RINO. Call them like I see them. Maybe Sean can make you feel warm and fuzzy about his support of RINOism by giving you some Ruth Crists or something.

He is a staunch supporter of our troops and does much for them and I give him kudos for that, but how can a professed Catholic support a professed pro-choice candidate?

Also he ( Rudy ) purports to be a conservative and supports gay rights and marriage? Hmm.. that makes Sean a hypocrite as well.

Yes, I love his show. Much more than just politics, although today Rich Lowry was on.
I don’t get to listen as often as I like tho because of the time it’s on. Just HAVE to listen to Rush! :o)

I love Dennis’ story during the Richard Burton featured clips — when Dennis said that he was accepting an Emmy Award many years ago (with Sal, who apparently had been a writer with Dennis in some TV show in the 90’s) — and that Dennis went onstage and started thanking many people, and the list of thanks started with: “I’d like to thank Conrad Hilton, Michael Wilding, Mike Todd, Larry Fortensky, etc.” — and no one in the audience except for John Larroquette noticed that those names were actually former Liz Taylor husbands! He said that after he said “Mike Todd”, that Larroquette caught on and started laughing...

THAT DENNIS!

Everyone has their place, Sean’s doing just fine in his

Agreed. While he's not my favorite either, as long as he hammers the Obamessiah, he's OK in my book. As they say, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend".

Also, I can't forget his work with the freedom concerts for the troops as well.

This message just appeared on Laura's website after her show (again sub-hosted by Monica Crowley) aired this morning.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO LAURA INGRAHAM SHOW LISTENERS

Reports are circulating in the press that I "took a leave of absence" or walked out on my radio show. As I wrote in this space earlier this week, that is false. The decision to remove the Laura Ingraham Show from the airwaves was made unilaterally by Talk Radio Network as a tactic in contract negotiations, against my will and over my protest. Additionally, any notion that I am leaving radio is also completely false. After all my years on the air, you know that I would never voluntarily abandon you during such a critical time for our country. Power to the People.
