Did Obama Register With Selective Service?

Posted on 06/07/2008 1:19:25 PM PDT by mondonico

I suppose you can't fault a candidate for not volunteering for the military, particularly in the late 1970s when Obama came of military age.

However, I do think it is important to know whether a male candidate for Commander-in-Chief registered for the draft. I remember doing it in 1981. Obama should have in 1979. I wonder if he did, given his foreign upbringing and foreign/lefty background.

Anyone know how to check this? The Selective Service website required birthdate and social security number.

I would guess he’d claim to fall within the period when Registration was suspended early in 1975.

Obama was required to register; see post 57.

Thank you, I wasn’t sure about that.

The question remains open; Barack Hussein Obama may not have registered with the selective service as required by law. Obama’s social security number can be used to check his status but I could not find it.

For sure, devolve’s been posting this question for months.

I’ve done searches and it looks like the many excellent researchers here have failed to find it yet.

.

Obama’s home mortgage and his 1040 will have his SS# on them

They easily got Dan Quayle’s SS# and mortgage info

Any PI can do that in a few seconds

Just have John McCain publish photocopies of his birth certificate and original Selective Service card with his ID#

I have no problem remembering mine:

Wonder WHY someone hasn’t brought it out?? All the media isn’t in love with Obama, there’s gotta be a ‘Dan Rather’ out there. Lol, hopefully a better researcher than him though.

If our sons are required to register for selective service so should our daugthers have to register.

If the democratic party were true to their position on equality females registering would be a plank in their platform.

And, btw, illegal aliens are to register also.

My son was skipped a grade, graduated a year early therefore got nothing about Selective Service, until after his 18th birthday. Through the mail, to our home. Son and I both read the material, the wording threw us. The letter did not cite the law. The letter came across as "optional", like a sales advertisement. It was a little spooky; and not at all what I would have expected. I put in the "to review" file.

Got around to it, went onsite, and learned that YES, each male is supposed to REGISTER. So my son registered. Within 30 days of getting that notice; but at least two months after he turned 18. My son is going military.

I shared this Selective Service Registration matter with a number of folks, and not a single one knew it was the law. And they've sons in their early to late 20s who've not registered with the Selective Service.

So, why is it Democrats and Liberals want to bring back the draft?

It’d be a good thing to ask him at a town hall meeting.

While the questions may be vetted in advance, there is NOTHING they can legally do to you for asking something other than was pre-approved on a card. To do so is to admit that these debates are as staged as the “Twenty-One” gameshows of the 1950s.

They want to drum up vocal opposition to certain wars.

And they wanted in 2004 to use it as a campaign issue, they proclaimed on Viacom(CBS) owned MTV that Bush WAS bringing back the draft. It was only Democrats who sponsored such legislation and when Republicans forced a vote on it, even the sponsors voted against it.

There was even selective service registration between 1975 and 1980. People were told to register at the post office at least in 1979. I think there was a court challenge that lost but those doing it gave their valid points that there was no selective service system in place at that time nor any draft boards. Apparently the only thing that happened was that the cards filled out before Carter reinstated the draft were filed for future use.

Many in the military also have the ability to think independently, don’t like to be yelled at and aren’t morning people. The difference for them is that they can exhibit discipline...especially when it is not convenient for them.

They used to run those commercials all the time. "Have you registered for selective service? It's the law."
