She must have gone on more than one rant. Wasn't it the Obama camp saying she was actually saying “Why’d he”, as in “Why’d he let New Orleans drown”? Katrina was in 2005 and this article says this rant was in 2004.

IIRC, McCain at first was defiant about referring to the VC as “gooks” and then later backed down and said he wasn’t going to use the term anymore. It’s not very presidential to throw around racial and ethnic slurs, no matter what the justification.
