French explorer and adventurer Xavier Rosset is about to embark on a 300 day trip to live alone on a remote tropical island in the South Pacific. His adventures will be filmed and used for a 52 minute documentary.
Xavier’s only luggage will be a Swiss army knife, machete video camera and a solar panel for charging the camera. He will spend 10 months alone on an island to develop another way of life through an exciting adventure, a return to the elemental sources. Xavier will survive alone on an island without human interference and without polluting emissions.
The ambition of this documentary is to make a reflection on our lifestyle, our current system and our relationship to nature. And the most important thing is to put the dream and emotion at the heart of adventure natural.
He will find timber to build a shelter, feed on the rudimentary fishing, plants and the harvesting of rainwater to survive.
The philosophy of this adventure is quite different than the existing issues which are aimed competition and the elimination of participants through a system of testing and votes. The primary motivation of this documentary is to draw attention to our planet, on our perception of the world around us and different ways to preserve the future.
Most men have forgotten how to live with nature because we have so far arranged the world according to our needs and desires that these bases, so important, have disappeared.
THE DOCUMENTARY
This 52-minute film will trace the life of a man returning to the sources for 10 months without any human interference, learning to adapt to medium term to its new environment, feeding on wildlife, flora and the local fishing.
The documentary will be mainly a parallel relationship between man, nature and the preservation of our environment.
This documentary will be seen on screens in spring 2009.
FILMING
Filming will be done entirely by Xavier who has good experience in video production. To bring up images of qualities, he will find tips to make every single plan reporting, dynamic and growing. The camera will be recharged with a battery powered by a photovoltaic panel.
DESTINATION AND DEPARTURE DATE
Several destinations were selected for the documentary, and with advice from Cheyenne Morrison the Kingdom of Tonga was finally selected as the destination for the filming.
August 8, 2007 Xavier visited Tonga, and with advice from the Tourism department selected the island for his adventure.
Tofua Island, a volcanic island lost in the middle of the Pacific. This will be the destination of Xavier for this adventure story.
On July 8, 2007, the Government of Tonga islands in the Pacific has adopted the idea of this documentary and greatly facilitates obtaining a visa and long-term authorizations shooting.
The destination is interesting because Tonga 2 volcanic islands would lend themselves well to this experience. They are isolated, with the vegetation, terrain and no human presence.

My travel is very fine, I went on the island I am going to stay for 10 month. Tofua island. it is a very wild place and it exactly what I need. there is no sandy beach.. booh I don’t need it anyway... I stayed there for 3 days by walking around and drinking coconut...

I know I wouldn’t want to sit next to him on the flight home.
Oh how often I have thought of doing just this, a year long all expense paid vacation.

If you are alive, even on a deserted island with no pollution devices, you are still altering nature. I think it would be best if the guy just drowns himself immediately.

oh what the heck....
A man was washed up on a beach after a terrible shipwreck. Only a sheep and a sheepdog were washed up with him. After looking around, he realized that they were stranded on a deserted island.
After being there awhile, he got into the habit of taking his two animal companions to the beach every evening to watch the sunset.
One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful cirrus clouds, the breeze was warm and gentle - a perfect night for romance.
As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the lonely man. Soon, he leaned over to the sheep and put his arm around it. But the sheepdog, ever protective of the sheep, growled fiercely until the man took his arm from around the sheep.
After that, the three of them continued to enjoy the sunsets together, but there was no more cuddling. A few weeks passed by and, lo and behold, there was another shipwreck.
The only survivor was Hillary Clinton.
That evening, the man brought Hillary to the evening beach ritual. It was another beautiful evening - red sky, cirrus clouds, a warm and gentle breeze - perfect for a night of romance. Pretty soon, the man started to get ‘those feelings’ again.
He fought the urges as long as he could but he finally gave in and leaned over to Hillary and told her he hadn’t had sex for months.
Hillary batted her eyelashes and asked if there was anything she could do for him.
He said, ‘Would you mind taking the dog for a walk?’
Now that’s classic. We should just give them numbers, and post the numbers.

Heck, that stupid reality show, “Survivor” has problems with contestants losing too much weight. And they most certainly have a lot more support personnel.
This guy is asking to have someone find his dead body after 10 months. Make for some great TV, though...could call it “Death Watch.”

These people want to dismantle "our current system" and flog us back to the jungle and the cave.

So exactly what is he setting out to “prove”? That we would all be better off if we would just separate from one another, eat nuts and berries, live in wood and straw huts (life expectancy was less than 30 years for our ancient ancestor)
Or maybe it is nothing more complicated than he just went through a bad relationship and now has such low self-esteem he feels his only recourse is to go off and live alone.
Oh well. Another looney to put on my IGNORE list.

He’ll be able to do the old rubbing two sticks together to start a fire. I do wonder about the lack of communication. And more importantly - just watching Survivor Man trying to keep his camera’s alive for seven days in a hot, humid, wet climate - I hope he has plenty of spare cameras. I saw one where survivor man had like 4 camera’s, and only the small handheld one worked at the end!
I can see it now. No radio, etc. And the last part of his movie is “Here I am, on day 10. A milestone out of my 300 days. My camp is in order, I have - hey, is this thing on? Hello, testing 1,2 -——”.
cool except for the fact that if he gets malaria or cuts a finger off or breaks a bone, the medics will fly in and save him. That makes things like this a little easier to do.
Using google earth, I see at least three areas that have structures built. I highly doubt if the island is always deserted.
