I quit wearing my uniform after a crazy lady went off on me about a year ago. If I did witness something like this, I'd take action.

American servicemen have been harassed before. Here's how they handled it:

"What is known as the "Zoot Suit Riots" occurred between the gangs of predominantly black and Mexican youths who were at the forefront of the zoot-suit subculture, and the predominantly white American servicemen stationed along the Pacific coast. On the night of June 3, 1943, eleven sailors on shore leave stated that they were attacked by a group of Mexican pachucos. In response to this, a group of over 200 uniformed sailors chartered 20 cabs and charged into the Mexican American community in East Los Angeles. Any zoot suiter was fair game. On this and the following nights, many a zoot suiters were beaten by this mob and stripped of their clothes, their zoot suits, on the spot."

Sorry, but they do. I recently hosted the commanding general of U. S. Marine Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) in Chicago. Although he and his aide-de-camp (ADC) were wearing desert MARPAT cammies when they arrived off a military flight, they changed into civvies when we went out to dinner and breakfast the next day.

When I was at Walter Reed in March, an injured soldier and his wife came out to thank all of us for being there. She told me that they no longer go out to malls duing their day trips outside the hospital because they have been harassed so frequently...and old style...baby-killers, spitting and the like. She stopped going after the soldier they were also with, in a wheelchair, was verbally attacked.

My Sea Cadet Unit will be visiting our Nations Capitol this weekend, visiting the White House along with participating in a full Military Funeral for one of our fallen Soldiers/Sailors/Marines, and we will be in uniform at all times. I swear to God that if any one of these “Hippies” comes up to one of my Cadets or Officers and TRIES to make trouble or verbally abuses them, they will wish they hadn’t! And I will have numerous digital cameras, along w/cell phone ones and a digital video camera to document the issues. Bring it on you long haired, no job, don’t know what to do with your lives wannabe’s!

No one was threatening me. I just had a crazy lady yapping at me about George Bush. If anyone were threatened or there was violence, I would take action.
