This is more ammo for the move in South Florida to split the state in 2. For too long West Palm Beach, Broward (Ft Lauderdale) and Dade (Miami) have been supporting the state financially while central and north, infested with mostly illiterate twits have been reaping the welfare benefits while producing nothing.

Guilty! :-)

(Actually, I think it's a huge overreaction...)

Not guilty.

If he was a real wizard, he’d have given himself some hair.

I can imagine that this would only improve his popularity with the students.... "Our sub today was a wizard! You know, like Gandalf... how awesome is that?"

Duncan, awakening to find over 100 toothpicks hidden in his hair, immediately ran to the principal's office to report the evil Mr. Piculas.

UPDATE!! A local blogger has discovered that Piculas used to claim that he was a real wizard and billed himself as an "erotic tarot reader." Apologists for the idiot school officials will undoubtedly cite this in their defense. It makes no difference, however, since Piculas wasn't fired for some obscure 2 year old claims that came to light only after the fact, but for a simple sleight of hand trick.

Funny you should mention Land o' Lakes butter.

Have you ever seen the magic trick with the Land o' Lakes butter box and the Indian Maiden? It's a hoot!

(I guarantee this teach would have been bounced for showing the kids THAT one. I showed it to my college sophomore's friends and they all collapsed with groans -- and then ran to show it to all THEIR friends . . . )

Why didn't you post the whole story? local6.com is not on Jim Rob's no-no list.

Perhaps many of the student body are from a culture that takes magic very seriously and it spooked them. Chickens and goats are probably being sacrificed at this very moment to remove and possible curse the teacher placed on them.

As this took place in a city that's 95% white, I seriously doubt that there's a huge community of voodoo practitioners in the school system. These are probably just the clowns who burn Harry Potter books.

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Those ‘illiterate twits’ are among the hardest working tax payers with strong conservative values you’ll ever find.

The school district puts a somewhat different spin on the disappearing-toothpick incident.

Assistant Superintendent Renalia DuBose said the word “wizardry” never came up on the school district’s end.

“That was his rendition of what happened,” she said.

DuBose also said “there was a lot more involved” than a simple magic-trick demonstration.

She said the principal interviewed students after the regular teacher complained about Piculas’ performance in the classroom. The principal then requested that Piculas not return to the school and said he “absolutely should not be subbing,” DuBose said.

“The toothpick demonstration was minor compared to the other problems,” she said.

In a letter the district sent to Piculas, performing a magic trick at Rushe Middle is just one of the reasons the district gives for dumping him from the substitute-teacher list. The others are that Piculas did not follow the lesson plans, he allowed students on computers even though another teacher said not to and he told the fifth-period student peer that she was in charge.

(snip)

As a matter of fact I do know what I am talking about. Majority of my patients from Florida who are on Medicaid or receive any type of government assistance are from Central and North Florida. These are true numbers and not coincidences. Clearly I was referring to the non-working twits.
