I travel to Mexico frequently and it’s interesting to note that Cinco de Mayo is basically ignored there. It’s a much bigger holiday north of the border, especially among non-Hispanics. My Mexican friends and relatives are amused when I tell them about Cinco de Mayo parties here.

its more fun to laugh at the “mexicans” that are celebrating cinco de mayo.
ask them what the significance of the holiday is. if they tell you “its the mexican 4th of july!” slap them make them buy you a drink.
90% of the “mexicans” i see celebrating the day are 3+ generation Americans, don’t speak a word of spanish, and are out celebrating the “mexican independence day.”
at least white people are more honost. “i don’t know what the day means, but its a drinking holiday so i’m gonna get plastered”
