I hate to see former Marines lie like that and Ruiz lied!
This film was made to hurt the Marines, just as “Stop-Loss” was mde to hurt all of the armed forces.
I can’t help but wonder how much this movie star is making on this deal.
Defend Our Marines: But the film is still based on false allegations about real people. And that makes it confusing. Anyone watching the film would probably think your portrayal is how it happened.
Elliot Ruiz: Lets just say that if they did go in and kill those people: who was really responsible? Should Wuterich be really to blame for that? Who put them in that situation? Who is really to blame for all this happening? Thats what were trying to get to in this movie
Defend Our Marines: Well, I find it hard to imagine that Marines massacred people because I havent seen any evidence that a crime was committed in Haditha...
Elliot Ruiz: But is it really the Marines fault? If they did do it, is it really their fault?
And it also shows how were just pawns in this war
How were being used
And really, who was it that sent us in there?
I don't want to name names, but I saw one film at the Toronto Film Festival that made me sick to my stomach (I believe Battle against Haditha Marines made it's debut in Toronto)
Elliot Ruiz: Theres just so much information in the film. I really hope people look past the massacre....
At least we know who toted all that water (& sugar cubes)for the Kool Aid.
Thanks for the interview, Red. I don't know how you made it through it and kept your composure.
Thanks for the interview Red but frankly I don’t give a damn about Ruiz’s justifications for kicking his fellow Marines in the gonads. You can’t “star” in a film called Battle for Haditha while trials about Haditha are going on and be that ignorant. At the end there he starts to sound like a CodePinker...
I totally agree with Semper Fi Mom!
Shame on you Elliot Ruiz! When you started working on this movie, Broomfield stated it was a true story, now with the innocence being proven of our Haditha Marines, it has been changed to a fictional one. How convenient for YOU! Our Haditha Marines are innocent, and you, in no way, helped them by doing this movie!
If you and Broomfield were decent people, you would have waited for the outcome of the trials before doing any movie. You and Broomfield are no better than Murtha and Time!
By the way Red, as always, you did an excellent job with the interview. I think the next one should be with Broomfield.
I think one of the things I’m most offended by is the portrayal of Marines as victims. ANYONE serving now knowingly re-upped or joined while there was a war on. What he implies is that his fellow Marines are dupes, and stupid ones at that. And then to try to blame Bush who is thousands of miles away clearly illustrates the side of the fence he and the writer/director sit on.
Shouldn’t the blame be with those insurgents who deliberately hid behind women and children, in some cases their own families rather than take the battle elsewhere? Heck, even leaving the women and children in the house and skulking around behind buildings outside would’ve been more honorable. But no, it’s Bush’s fault for starting the war and drop-shipping gullible Marines, who obviously have no discipline or self-control, into a war zone. I swear these people are going to have their Vietnam if they have to write it themselves.
I expect this kind of thing out of Mr. Broomfield, he’s a liberal and doesn’t know any better (though he should). However, this guy should know better...he was a Marine. But then, what are Core Values when you could have an acting career.
