I have read and re-read this interview with Ruiz and no matter how you slice it, or what you want to call it, this film will do nothing but “harm” our Marines! Ruiz has portrayed Frank as a cold-blooded murderer WHICH HE IS NOT!! And neither are any other Haditha Marines! Anyone who sees this film and doesn’t know the Haditha circumstances will think that our Marines are guilty, guilty, guilty!! For his 15 minutes of fame Ruiz has, like the media, blemished Frank’s reputation and that of his fellow Marines! I, for one, am mad as hell!
IMO? YES!
Do I believe the explanation of Ruiz? NO!
Thanks for the interview and the post, Red.
I hate to see former Marines lie like that and Ruiz lied!
This film was made to hurt the Marines, just as “Stop-Loss” was mde to hurt all of the armed forces.
Ruiz is rationalizing his decision to be part of this movie. He probably, truly, does not want to betray the Marine Corps, but the seduction of being in this movie was too great for him to resist. So, he is spinning things in a way that allows him to believe that this propaganda film does not betray the Corps. It does, however, and one day Ruiz will realize that.
Agreed, Mom. Ruiz has been dazzled by the attention he’s getting and has even picked up all the usual Leftwing talking points about everything being Bush’s fault.
The way the Haditha Marines have been used as symbols for political points is absolutely sickening and disgraceful. And when former Marines are doing it for their own gain, we’ve hit rock bottom.
Maybe the same two people who saw “Stop-Loss” will see this movie, too. Then both can just disappear.
That is one superb analysis. Ruiz is 22 years old. He is in for one major rude awakening and a lifetime of self-loathing. I wish it weren't true because any vet deserves some respect. But Ruiz will end up in a hell of his own making (with Leftwing nuts like the filmmaker as his enabler).
I can’t help but wonder how much this movie star is making on this deal.
Defend Our Marines: But the film is still based on false allegations about real people. And that makes it confusing. Anyone watching the film would probably think your portrayal is how it happened.
Elliot Ruiz: Lets just say that if they did go in and kill those people: who was really responsible? Should Wuterich be really to blame for that? Who put them in that situation? Who is really to blame for all this happening? Thats what were trying to get to in this movie
Defend Our Marines: Well, I find it hard to imagine that Marines massacred people because I havent seen any evidence that a crime was committed in Haditha...
Elliot Ruiz: But is it really the Marines fault? If they did do it, is it really their fault?
And it also shows how were just pawns in this war
How were being used
And really, who was it that sent us in there?
I don't want to name names, but I saw one film at the Toronto Film Festival that made me sick to my stomach (I believe Battle against Haditha Marines made it's debut in Toronto)
Elliot Ruiz: Theres just so much information in the film. I really hope people look past the massacre....
At least we know who toted all that water (& sugar cubes)for the Kool Aid.
Thanks for the interview, Red. I don't know how you made it through it and kept your composure.
Thanks for the pings.
Thanks for doing the interview, Red.
This statement alone sums up the whole situation.
There are too many people out there, IMO, that when you hold a postcard of the beach up to their face and tell them they are at the beach, they think they are at the beach...
Thanks for the interview Red but frankly I don’t give a damn about Ruiz’s justifications for kicking his fellow Marines in the gonads. You can’t “star” in a film called Battle for Haditha while trials about Haditha are going on and be that ignorant. At the end there he starts to sound like a CodePinker...
Yeah, mostly I wanted to get something out there that challenged the basis of the movie. There’s been nothing but ridiculous puff pieces in the media (how surprising).
And if Hannity or one of those guys does something, they’ll need some material to steal.
I think the Code Pink stuff comes being his being around Leftwingers who LOVE servicemen they can weep over as victims. Certain kinds of people are very susceptible to that kind of infantilization, and Ruiz is one of them.
Hey, fred! It’s raining!
Wasn’t easy! But I think it does speak for itself!
I totally agree with Semper Fi Mom!
Shame on you Elliot Ruiz! When you started working on this movie, Broomfield stated it was a true story, now with the innocence being proven of our Haditha Marines, it has been changed to a fictional one. How convenient for YOU! Our Haditha Marines are innocent, and you, in no way, helped them by doing this movie!
If you and Broomfield were decent people, you would have waited for the outcome of the trials before doing any movie. You and Broomfield are no better than Murtha and Time!
By the way Red, as always, you did an excellent job with the interview. I think the next one should be with Broomfield.
