This is a political forum and really has not place for an out of place comment that Im about to make, but I just have to say that tonight on American Idol I was watching a magic moment in Jason Castro who sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Dont care how old or corny the Judy Garland classic is, this Castro kid did such a wonderful rendition of it that I just had to get my heart out of my throat and say this guy, well he really has a musical genius in him and I hope he takes the singing competition. This topped his rendition of Hallelujah which was by the way also fantastic. This guy is musical history before our eyes. He has the magic, there is no question about it.
Sorry about having to post this, the last thing we need is an American Idol panel of judges on Free Republic, sorry again but Castro is really something special.
Jason for President 2008 (just kidding).
By the way, I actually LIKE his dreadlocks. He isnt cool, hes magic. Even Simon liked him.
Reminded me of Tiny Tim singing Tiptoe Through the Tulips.
You need to ping silent_johnny and get on his American Idol ping list. Lots of fun commentary every week.
Wasn’t Jason the genius who thought the Beatles’ “Michelle” was about a bell?
And I too thought of Tiny Tim during his song....
Jason seems like a one trick pony who relies on his fabulous eyes and sweet smile to the point where he bores me.
He was covering Hawaiian dude. Big guy, cannot remember his name.
Famous for doing over the rainbow, accompanied by mandolin
you tube has quite few renditions by hawaiian dude
ROFLMAO!!
The song was first heard sung as the ending tune to the movie "Meet Joe Black". When I first heard it I was blown away.
If you want to hear one of the best covers of the song listen to the late Eva Cassidy sing it. She was amazing and it was sad that she died.
Thanks for the insight info on IZ ... what a wonderful version of this classic.
I’m a little old fasion on the pc lingo, how do I ping silent_johnny and get on the ping list (?) it sounds interesting...
