The economy as an election factor

Back in 2000, the Bush and Gore teams had an entirely different take on the economic conditions at the time. The conventional wisdom with economists, financial leaders, and the Bush campaign was that the economy was headed for a downturn and that action was need. The conventional wisdom in the media, mainstream America, and the Gore campaign was that we were living in prosperous times and that old George and the GOP were simply "talking down the economy".

As it turned out, we were headed for a downward spiral what started in Q3 of 2000, although you would have not remembered much about it because the media didn't start really reporting problems with the economy until Bush took over as President. The reality was that the Bush team was correct, even if they got little credit for being correct at the time.

It doesn’t help that “our guy” is a self admitted idiot on the economy.
