Please allow me to start off by proudly stating that this latest article was written on an energy-consuming computer under the illumination of a regular, non-environmentally friendly filament light bulb, with the television playing in the background down the double-lit hallway as the washer and dryer go through their water and power chugging cycles in the basement.
Its the start of the latest Internet-inspired, burned-out old hippy-fueled, enviroNazi public relations stunt. It is one minute into Earth Hour, and I just turned on the porch light in celebration.....

Re: Google "turns the lights out" [Mark Steyn]
Nathan, what I like about Google "going dark" in support of "Earth Hour" is that it, in fact, uses more energy than the regular old white screen. But hey, we can always use another pointless gesture in the name of "raising awareness". Anyone who isn't "aware" by now of the mass global-warming psychosis is presumably already living in a cave, and therefore has no lights to turn out.
Another attractive feature of "Earth Hour" is the opportunity it offers to transform free nations into a society of eco-Stasi:
Between 8 and 9 tonight, Ill be doing what I usually do at that time:Ill be out with my wife walking our two dogs 5km around our small town.
Tonight, however, Ill be looking at my neighbours windows to see which ones are participating in Earth Hour.
Hmm. While you're at it, why not stroll past Al Gore's one-man City of Light in Tennessee?
Still, you couldn't ask for a better image for this movement than apparently sane people voluntarily keeping themselves in the dark. The great Tim Blair, lit up like Gore Manor, has much more.
We were doing some babysitting for some friends and had 5 little ones running around.
Phhhhbpt, you wackos.
Lets rename this the John McCain Memorial I Hope Somebody Teaches You Basic Science and Economics Just In Case You Accidentally Get Elected POTUS Hour.
I have all my lights blazing and all the blinds open. I’ll take some pictures just before 2100 hours when hopefully it will be a little dark.
Threw all the lights on, and some other devices.
Also did some vacuuming.
It’s friggin America! Power should never be an issue.
Build more nukes! Even the greenies are starting to see the sense of that.
