TWO KILLED IN SIX-MOTORCYCLE PILE-UP Bernama Bernama - Monday, March 17

KLANG, March 16 (Bernama) -- A predawn, six-motorcycle pile-up left two motorcyclists dead and four others injured, one seriously, at Batu 3, Jalan Kampung Jawa near Telok Menegun today.

B. Jayanathan, 27, and Mohd Shahrudin Kamaruddin, 18, who sustained head and body injuries, died on the way to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR).

Mohamad Nizam Zulpata, 18, has been warded at the hospital's intensive care unit in a critical condition.

The rest sought out-patient treatment.

Klang traffic police and public order chief DSP Rosly Abd Rahman said all six were from Taman Emas, Kampung Jawa. He said Mohd Shahruddin and four friends were riding home to Taman Emas after supper here, when they crashed into Jayanathan who came from the opposite direction about 4am. -- BERNAMA ZUZ MB GR

I read in a Vietnamese newspaper last month about a motorcycle carrying a family of 6, hitting a van with 50 folks aboard, head on on Hwy 1. The article noted that both vehicles were overloaded.

Be careful out there! Last week, in a two day period, I dealt with one screeching to a halt van, two blind drivers, and one guy who cut in front of me because his lane ended due to road work.

The last one forced me to stop too quickly, on a freshly tarred, rain wet road. As my bike's front end twisted a couple times as the bike slid down the road, I did my best fall guy impression, rolling thirty feet. I was able to get up after regaining my breath. After sitting on the side of the road for a couple minutes, the bike started and I gingerly rode home. I have a 4"x3" road rash on my knee...treated with Neosporin....bruises on my arms, and quarter-sized spot on my helmet that shows where my frontal lobotomy would be if I went without it. I am questioning whether I still have what it takes to ride. I am more leaning toward getting a better motorcycle. The cruiser seating feels unbalanced to me. Also, the back break doesn't feel like I can press hard enough to make it effective enough. I am no longer encouraging others to take up riding. If they are already interested, I will encourage them, but if they have not thought of it before, I am not encouraging it.

My latest road rash: (Note, the bulge is my knee, not swelling)

For some reason, the wound got worse after taking the picture. The top layer of skin died and came off with my first covering. THe healing is beginning, but it may not heal completely for a couple weeks.
