I used to see folks carry all kinds of stuff on board from the Duty-Free shops, but I guess those days are gone for good. More’s the pity.

Oh, the duty-frees are still there. You can bring on liquids purchased after you go through security.

There was discussion of allowing the duty-free purchases on arrival instead. I saw that in India, actually -- they had shops by the luggage claim area, before you cleared Customs.
