Well, they’re not very good if they don’t have sense enough to shut off the electronics....

I think Ill go light a stogie and make some gratuitous CO2. Actually you're just recycling the carbon back into the air from whence it came.
So many of these "green" ideas are dumb... Sure, you can plant more trees but when they die or are cut down... what then? Eventually most will be burned or other release the carbon as CO2.
Now if you cut the trees and dumped them in the ocean (perhaps at the North Pole), you'd somewhat permanently sequester that carbon...

Back in the late 60s Popular Electronics ran an article on two annoying noisemakers. I built a few of "The Drip" -- a device that, as I built it (not original parts values), would emit a faint sound like a kitten's mewing for about a second or two, then go quiet for several minutes. It was a clever little circuit, and the article said it would run for a long time.
It did.
5 to 6 years later, one quiet night, I heard one. Took me two days to find it.

I still have it, though the battery is dead. The battery actually lasted longer in the circuit than it would have on the shelf.

Ah! Report is done and e-mailed... though the corporate VPN is down (almost 2 hours now!) so it’s not going.

I’ll be getting off here shortly, anyway. I seem to have attracted a bunch of Snopes fans who want to club me. (That would be my fan club....)

Well, I don’t put too much stock in folks that have to check with Snopes before they post something. It seems to me that statistics are just a bunch of numbers, and anyone can juggle them and put any label on they want. It doesn’t make them true, even if you never post them.
They can also make up stories and post them as gospel, but that won’t MAKE them true!
I think I’m old enough and intelligent enough to weed out fact from fiction. Snopes doesn’t pay my bills, so I don’t have to check with him on anything. And who says HE’s the final authority? Besides himself, I mean?

Awww, I’m sorry.
I didn’t mean to cause you a problem.
Tell them to ping me, I was the one who posted it there.
I’m sorry Sis.

Snopes often (if not always, I don't know) supplies the reasoning for the determination.
In this case the entry identifies the Congressional report from which this list came, and notes that the quoted stats are of active military deaths -- all causes, not combat/operational (excluding suicides, illness, etc.). In the context in which these stats were presented, the wrong data was used.
It's easy to be taken, as I was by this same message.

It’s OK, sion. Folks have a right to check with Snopes if they want. I won’t stop them.
The figures had to be gotten from somewhere, so I guess if it makes folks feel good to go to Snopes and read just enough to make themselves sound superior, that’s fine, to.
At least you actually READ it.
And with that, I’m outta here for the night. I think I’ve overstayed my welcome. And besides...the nausea just doesn’t want to go away.
XOXO
