Obama Backs Law Helping McCain (And Obama is supposed to be a constitutional law scholar?)

FT. WORTH, Texas -- Sen. Barack Obama's campaign announced he would co-sponsor legislation introduced yesterday by his political ally Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill to ensure that John McCain can become president, even though he was born in the Panama Canal Zone.

The issue of McCain's eligibility was raised in a New York Times article noting the constitutional requirement that a U.S. president be a "natural-born citizen" had never been fully defined.

I had to excerpt the Washington Compost.

The funny thing is that this bill would actually be more restrictive than existing federal law that grants citizenship to children born overseas to US citizens. This bill would only cover the children of anyone serving in the armed forces.

Obama shows that he is an idiot, because there is no probem with McCain's eligibility to become President based on laws that existed long before McCain was born. It does call into question Obama's skills as a constitutional scholar, because the US Constitution prohibits ex post facto laws

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) hand wrote her legislative fix on a yellow legal pad,
which she delivered to the Senate clerk, to ensure that any persons born to U.S. citizens
serving in the Armed Services while stationed abroad qualify to become president of the
United States.

Ex post facto though is only for criminal law -- not civil law. Otherwise, the popular lawmakers could not raise taxes retroactively.

Im not even sure why this is an issue. Born on a US installation overseas to parents serving the US government, just like me, does NOT make one ineligible for POTUS. Being Barack, liberal, and stupid, should..

Oh how marvelous of him to be the savior even of our side. What a bunch of bunk. McCain is not ineligible right now today. No saving needed by the (choke!) great one.

None of these morons are fit to hold any public office, much less run for president.

because the US Constitution prohibits ex post facto laws

Then there would be no such thing as a law granting amnesty.

But there is.

Obama and Tom Coburn did that, and it’s worth applauding.

Everyone should remember

“Constitutional Law” has

VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH

what the Constitution actually says, or what the founders (and more importantly, the ratifiers) understood it to mean.

If one does not understand the basis of our laws as put forth by the founders of our country, how can one solemnly pledge to uphold the US Constitution????

osamabama hussein has proved in his speeches that he has no idea of the duties and responsibilities of the Office of President. He is an ignorant buffoon... and truly air-headed empty suit.

what I read is to add a specific inclusion for the military, that by the constitution they are already included as natural citizens because they are born of parents who are natural citizens

this an opportunity to build support for Legal Immigration, and a real threat to anchor Babies as being unconstitutional...it is a great time to educate the moderates about the wonderful value of being an American, and that we debase the country when the law is not respected and we allow the debasement of our History and the foundations that is our Constitution
