Zombie attacks might increase due to global warming, study shows

A new study by scientists has suggested that zombie attacks might increase if the current projections of global warming are realized. “If the earth gets warmer, it means longer springs, summers, and falls, and shorter winters,” said John Carpenter-Romero, Ph.D., a zombie-ologist who co-authored the study. “And shorter winters means more time for the undead to prey on the populace.”

Dr. Harrister, the other co-author, and head of Zombie Robotics at Wayward Robot, Inc., explained that cold winters typically stalled the walking dead. “It is well known that zombies can’t operate in cold weather. It freezes their brains.”

The pair calculated a 32.782412% increase in zombie attacks if CO2 increased to twice its pre-industrial rate. “Clearly, this is a very troubling result,” said Dr. Harrister, “If we don’t do something soon, the streets will be filled with blood.”

Synesthesia.
Though from what I understand of it, what my family experiences isn’t ‘true’ synesthesia.

Listen to the Tarja song I linked while reading this:

The sky was a burning red, almost arterial red.
I quickened my pace, as soon it would be dawn and I had to get back to my lair- and sleep.
The cursed sleep of the damned that all of my kind were cursed with.
How many centuries had it been now?
30?
I shook my head in grim thought.
All those years, all those sunrises that I could never see.
Ever.

I passed by some flowers and was tempted to pick one.
A silly thought, what do the undead need with flowers?
My kind would think me mad, stopping to pick a flower as if I were courting a maiden!
Maidens...
Again, I shook my head, partly to get rid of some horrible images and slow my quickening and growing hunger.
And to stave off the salivation that would come from following that line of thought.
Somewhere a dog barked.

Sticking my hands in my pockets, I traveled onward towards my eventual seclusion from the light.
A woman exited a door to my left, and the pock pock sound of her high heels told me she felt secure.
She was heading home late from work, and felt secure that the alley was deserted.
I knew better.
I could sense him before I even saw him.
He waited in the shadows, like a thief, like a predator, like a vampire, like me.
I sensed him tense for the spring.

He jumped upward, grabbed the woman roughly and proceeded to try and drag her further into the shadows where his intentions were quite clear.
He stank of fear and predatory energy.
Soon he stank of his own urine and terror.
He was pinned to the wall by my immobile stone cold grip.
The woman looked at me oddly as I told her to leave.
She hesitated.
I could hear her heartbeat where she stood, smell her skin and her perfume.
Almost taste the life in her veins..
My outraged bellow sent her running to her vehicle, the pock pock of her high heels coming more as a stacatto series of machine gun like clacks.
And then I vented my fury on her attacker.

His eyes had bulged at the sight of my fangs, and I shuddered as I drank his life.
I detested what I was, what I am.
What I will always be.
I turned back around the alleyway, leaving the body of the rapist to moulder in the boxes like trash, and picked a single flower from the cluster I had seen before.

And then I went home.
Maybe someday I will be granted my freedom from what I am, maybe someday I will get absolution..

I had traveled far beyond what was prudent, and heard the growls and snarls of creatures that were the proof of my lack of prudence.
I felt my heart hammer in my chest as I gripped my weapons in my hands.
Sweat dripped into my one eye, the lions came into view.
I swung with my bronze sword as the lead female leaped at me.
I had enough time to-

I sat bolt upright screaming.
After all these years, one would think I wouldn’t have nightmares.
My kind isn’t supposed to be able to have nightmares.
I padded in bare feet into my kitchen and grabbed a glass of water.
Not that water would do me any good, but it would help calm me down and keep me from dehydrating from sweating.
I opened my refrigerator and had stuck my head inside whenn I vaguely sensed something wrong, right before a voice intruded upon my existence.
“You really should look into therapy.”
Anything else the speaker said was drowned out by the sound of my head banging the inside of the refrigerator and then the sound of catastrophic collapse of everything in my hands.
I looked over the counter darkly at the speaker.
She tried to look demure, but I knew far better than that.
“How.. ow, did you get in here? And why are you here?” I rubbed my now rather bruised skull with one hand and surveyed the destruction.
A smile and my spare key being held before my eyes were my answer.
Perfect.
“So what name do you go by now? If I may ask?” my head hurt and my humor was rather nonexistent.
“You may call me Karen for now.” she purred.
Not too different from what I had known her as.
But vastly different from who she really was.
“Oh, you’ve been around for closer to 60 centuries deary.”
Rule one in the realm of fiends, never remind one of their age.
I glared at her darkly for a few minutes.
How could I ever forget?
After all, she was the one who had made me what I was.
All because I was a foolish boy who had seen a pretty face and had wanted to offer her father a dowry for her hand in marraige.

I shook my head to clear the memories that came.
But it was no use.
I remembered still.

They say a picture’s worth a thousand words. If I could draw pictures, I could save a lot of words.

On the other hand, I have ... a ... lot ... of ... words.

Don’t know how many I have on this one.

Excellent snow story! Of course, I actually read the original post wondering when the snow was going to come in before I realized you hadn’t posted that part. LOL at myself! BTW, that’s the best global warming (and snow) story I believe I’ve read. Thanks, again.

We have a couple inches they didn’t predict. If this keeps up and I may be able to FReep in the morning!
