"Politics is, at the end of the day, about ideas and philosophy, not simply rhetoric. But, as all the great presidents have shown, rhetoric matters, too. Beyond that, Hillary Clinton is a conventional liberal, as is Obama; the difference is that Obama is a graceful and dignified person who draws people to him rather than drives them away. He is impossible to dislike."

The one that sticks in my mind is "bottom-up economic growth"
HUH????
Well I am just loving President Clinton’s line about “Obama is just like Jesse Jackson” because they both won South Carolina. Except Obama also won more Nevada delegates, and he won Iowa. President Clinton (see, my respect for the office still holds despite those who have held the office) continues to do exactly what Obama said he does in the last debate - make factually incorrect statements.
Obama could win his primary. The numbers work - 88% of blacks and 25% of whites, with Edwards taking another 20% of votes makes the Obama campaign viable. The Clintons cannot buy Edwards off he is already stinking rich and probably doesn’t want a cabinet post - but he might like to be Veep under Obama.
“Obama is an extraordinary, compelling figure . . . “
Maybe you’re just too used to comparing him to Shrillary’s shreiking/cackling or to Dubya’s stilted speaking/dyslexic malappropisms.
Husseins’s a slick BSer like Willie, good enough to beat Her Heinous but Romney should be able to handle him easily when people start actually listening to what two candidates are saying.
And who among the Republicans, do you see as being able to stand against that kind of persuasive force and prevail?
From your lips, to God’s ears.
Could be a strategy but IMO, in the process, he’ll never get enough of the true Conservative Base to warrant it.
McCain will never be able to energize enough of the Base to overcome any Democrat, again, IMO.
Agreed. That crowd was electric as well. Compare that to the funeral mass John Edwards was at and Hillary’s fraud gathering with her David Lee Roth imitation “LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE HEREEEEEEEE TONIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT”
Obama even had me saying “Damn”
Nah, they’re just con men (except Ron Paul), nothing extraordinary about them :)
Well Joe Biden says he’s the only clean, articulate Negro in the Democrat party.
I actually think the Republicans would have a better chance against Hillary. I fear Obama will get a lot of “white guilt” vote
regardless of his qualifications.
I am seeing a number of freepers who are admiring his honesty, even though we disagree with his policies.
I am in that camp.
My lament: why can’t we have a candidate who is just as compelling?
Liberal is charitable. He’s farther left than McGovern.
imo
Yeh, and the Dems know that.
They also know of the deep and wide Hillary hatred out there......
He might be a good speaker...(altho he yells alot and doesn’t really say much), but he is not qualified to be the POTUS. Simple as that.
Obama sings the same song that John and Bobby Kennedy sang. We going to repeat history.
-—He doesnt personally impress me because what he says is void of any substance.-—
To his intended audience he is saying everything they want to hear. It’s like their innermost being sprouting wings and flying. Hitler was like that. There, thankfully, aren’t many that have a talent like Obama.
John and Bobby would be hard core country club Republicans these days. Obamasama isn’t ~ but he is definitely trying to sound like Eisenhower.
Boy, I thought about that the other day when a commercial for her was on TV. I usually rush to hit the mute when she comes on, but didn't get to the remote in time. I hate her voice. I don't want to hear her for the next 4 years. I don't want to hear her husband; I don't want to see either one of them. Go back to New York and leave the rest of the country alone.
How wrong you are. I am a 70 year old white man from the south.I’m also a conservative with a history going back to the Nixon administration.
For my generation, the single biggest issue to be resolved is that of race. It seems to me that we are on the way to settling that issue, and at the same time, eliminating the Clintons from their lofty, and undeserved, perch.
Because in the end American Presidential politics isn’t about issues but really which candidate is the most likable. That is my take at least in elections the last few decades. The most likable candidate won.
