bump for later read
When I was in school in the late 60’s and 70’s, we did Christmas programs and all grades sang every verse of every traditional carol for the performance. We said a prayer everyday and the pledge of allegiance. This is so sad.
Very good and accurate work. You will not see it reflected in the central command media. It will only surface through persistence in the alternative media. One thinks of good work such as John Gibson’s “The War on Christmas.”
It would be wise of Fred Thompson to pick up on this. How does this make Huckabee’s obtaining an NEA state organization endorsement look vs-a-vis his posture as an ordained Baptist man of God?
Welcome. I’ve read your earlier posts and I’m in complete agreement.
I’m an atheist myself but secular humanism is just another religion.
Keep the schools secular and stick to teaching facts. Better yet send your kids to the private school of your choosing.
The goal is to create a “new kind of person.” Worshiping a secular humanism, ripe for a cult of personality. This was tried before; it was called “The Soviet Union.” That ridiculous experiment ended when the facade caved in, the core of which had rotted years earlier.
Here, they are using different labels. The methods are the same, the goals are the same. And if allowed to succeed, the results will be the same.
It is a self-evident truth that people yearn for spiritual guidance like they yearn for air.
Nice article.
I agree that schools shouldn’t be teaching religion. This is for home and church. I’m just saying that back then, no one made such a big deal out of being a Christian and it was a nice way to grow up.
Welcome to FR.
I’m sure it’s nice to grow up around people who have the same beliefs as you do, I didn’t so that’s why I’m stuck on wanting schools to be completely secular.
I was suspended from school for refusing to go to a required school function that was essentially all gospel music, thing is I was just going to get detention until I explained to the principle that I was an atheist and that’s why I didn’t want to go.
“Some of the religious activities that the American Civil Liberties Union have banned through court cases or are attempting to ban now are:
1. Prayer 2. Bible-reading 3. Christian symbols (cross and crucifix) 4. Christmas activities (nativity and carols) 5. Christian clubs (Bible clubs) 6. Free Speech (talk about Christian religion) 7. Display of the Ten Commandments (2)”
Except for 4 and 7 (and 4 still happens in many, many schools) , this is just flat-out wrong.
I continue to hear this about public schools, and I have been knocking my head against a wall trying to understand that if this axiom is true, why this organization:
came to my school, passed out copies of the Holy Bible, had an open altar call, and brought a positive message?
Oh, I am a public school teacher. It must be a memo or an in-service that I missed.
Also, public school ping.
Not true. We have all those things, except maybe display of the Ten Commandments, at the public school where I teach. In fact, I've been sponsor of the Bible club at 2 different public schools.
This list is for articles relating to public education.
SoftballMominVA, Gabz and I have been asked to take over the list so that Metmom can concentrate on home schooling issues. If you want on or off this ping list, please FReepmail this months keeper of the list, SoftballMominVA.
Most people in this country adhere to some kind of religious faith and don’t have any problem with it being permitted or displayed in schools.
Why should the schools be secular contrary to the wishes of the majority of the taxpayers who are sending their children to those schools that their tax money is paying for?
We could keep the schools non-secular and if the secular humanist types don’t want to hear about religion, they can start their own private secular humanist school where no trace of religion can be found. The same option that is thrown up in the face of any Christian who objects to secular education is also open to the atheist parent who objects to any mention of religion.
What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
As a country, we have completely changed course.
What State??
