Endorsements Galore! (Steve King's endorsement of Fred Thompson)
The Atlantic ^ | 17 Dec 2007 | Marc Ambinder

Posted on 12/17/2007 12:44:11 PM PST by ellery

1. Rep. Steve King, (R-IA), endorses Fred Dalton Thompson (pace Bob Kerrey, we're using middle names today). King is one of those conservative politicians who drives the more established media crazy with his gut-generated utterances. He is very well respected in Western Iowa, however, and his endorsement provides critical validation of Thompson's conservativism.

WTF? Mitt Romney's team gathered at the back of the room, expecting his endorsement. But at the last moment, King said he had chosen Thompson.

Good for Thompson, who is well on his way to a third place finish in Iowa, and horrible, horrible news for Mitt Romney, who needed a dose of good news in Iowa, and who apparently assumed he would get this nomination.

The Atlantic is a must-excerpt. The rest of the article discusses an Obama endorsement.

Mitt Romney's team gathered at the back of the room, expecting his endorsement.

????

Steve King is BY FAR my favorite member of the Iowa delegation in Congress. If he gave any thought to endorsing Romney, I'm very disappointed and it seriously diminishes the value I would have otherwise given to his endorsement of Thompson.

I am wondering of it was an assumed endorsement by Team Mitt or if King was originally actually backing Romney before changing his mind.

This won’t phase Mitt one bit. He can still claim King’s endorsement.

Just like he did with the NRA.

I looked at the text of the endorsement and don't see Mitt's name anywhere. I'm not sure what, if anything, to read into that though.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I'm sure he did give Romney some consideration (as he stated he did for every candidate). But King mentioned every Republican candidate by name in his statement before making the endorsement. Every candidate except one, that is: Mitt Romney. His name was not mentioned once.

I think he intended to endorse Romney, and couldn’t do it at the end. If you read the written statement, that’s the only scenario that makes sense.

I sincerely doubt that it was coincidence that King picked today to make his endorsement. It seems obvious that it was planned to coincide with the start of Fred's bus tour. I'm not sure why Romney was so certain it was his, but I heard that MSNBC was falsely tipped that it was going to Mitt and obviously Mitt's camp was sure enough to show up ready to accept. Maybe they got their hands on a copy of the speech which did not include the name in the last line and they made some big assumptions.

Whatever the case...
Bummer for them.
Great for Fred and for us.

What a lovely tag-line:

The American Indians found out what happens when you don’t control immigration.

I’m afraid we will find out the same thing soon.

That tagline came to me in an email from a buddy. I confiscated it.

I’m afraid we will find out the same thing soon.

I will do everything I can to insure that doesn't happen.

Well, if you can’t say anything nice. . . .

Expect more over the next few days/weeks, leading to a couple of big ones.

Just a "hunch"

I love it when a plan comes together...

Bosco's tagline which Ing admires so much has been bugging me for days now: "The American Indians found out what happens when you don't control immigration."

Horsesh*t. Many American Indian tribes were brutal, bloodthirty savage cultures whose people thought nothing of scalping and mutilating women and children, white or Indian; they made Charles Manson look like Mr. Rogers. THAT's why they were treated likewise.

Now here we are, taxpayers laying out big baskets of goodies for illegal immigrants like free health care, free education, privacy/discrimination regulations that make it illegal for employers and private indivudals to NAIL DOWN and VERIFY the legal/illegal status of someone who looks Mexican -- and we get inane taglines like bcsco's. American Indians were wiped out because they didn't play well with others; illegal Mexican immigrants AREN'T being wiped out because too many hot-heads are too stupid to differentiate between symptoms and causes. If you really hate the problem of Illegal Immigration, then GO AFTER THE LIBERAL GOVERNMENT POLICIES AND POLITICIANS THAT LURE ILLEGALS AND PROTECT THEM ONCE THEY'RE HERE.

Harrrrrumppphhh!!!

I thought FRED’s campaign was dead in the water? Do these people know something the political pundits don’t?

FRED THOMPSON - PRO-LIFE ADVOCATE (true consistent Conservative Federalist and Pro-Life) - NATIONAL SECURITY EXPERT (I’ll protect the American people and values, whatever it takes to stop the Islamicfacists, including water-boarding) - 2ND AMENDMENT ADVOCATE (arming the People and disarming criminals) - SECURE AND SEAL THE BORDERS (don’t give them sanctuary anywhere, don’t hire them, don’t rent to them, don’t give them credit, don’t give them rights they don’t deserve, report all crimes committed by them, it’s called attrition, and deport those who have already committed crimes against America) - LAW AND ORDER (enforcement first and foremost with the laws currently on the books) - SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM (reform a program that can’t sustain itself and will bankrupt the next generation) - DEFEAT ANY DEMOCRAT AND RINO (any fool they put up) – TAX SIMPLIFICATION (variety of choice for the tax payer) - WON’T PUT UP WITH CRAP FROM THE MSM (including stupid questions by moderators and pundits) - “WE THE PEOPLE” CANDIDATE (We the People asked him to run and he stepped up) - PING!

I apologize for the "Bosco" tag -- I was doing the thing that I find so disturbing in anti-illegal-immigration zealots: succumbing to anger instead of reason!

So ya GOT me!!!! Touche! Please accept my humble apology.
