It looks like a broach that is missing the fastener.

Hmm...strap buckle of some sort? (Good luck with all the smart-aleck answers, BTW)
To: Grit
It appears to be an artifac from an alien spacecraft.

I’d guess either a drawer knocker or a drawer pull. It appears to be missing a loop that goes in the slot in the back and extends around the front.

oops, meant to say DOOR knocker
To: Grit
Could be a barrette. It is missing the part that would snap into the groove in the center back.

Door knocker would be my guess, too. Very cool find, in any case.

How about a picture from the side and one from the top so we can see all the views. Might help.
To: Red_Devil 232; Niteranger68
If it was a brooch, the area for the pin would be towards the top of the object in question.
To: SeaHawkFan; Grit
I still think it’s a door knocker, but I agree. A ruler to show scale would be helpful, too.

It looks like a hallmark on the back, this might be silver and I don’t think it is a door knocker.
If it is a hallmark, take it to a jewelry store and get it appraised.
