Fred Thompson, the Global Warming President?
American Writer ^ | 11/12/07 | Alexander J. Madison

Perhaps the biggest fraud ever to be perpetrated onto the American people is Global Warming. Al Gore is just the symptom. If not given cover by a group of supposed climate scientists and other left-wing academics, Mr. Gore would be easily seen as the nutcase, phony alarmist that he is. Alas, nearly the entire left of the political spectrum has bought into this hoax, and more than a few ‘conservatives’ have also succumbed to the hysteria, including Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee.

Fred Thompson, at least since he started campaigning for the GOP nomination, has provided some biting remarks regarding this issue, including pointing out that Mars is experiencing Martian Warming, with nary a human influence (Richard Hoagland’s theories not withstanding).

But what did Fred do and say during his time in the Senate, representing the good folks of Tennessee?

Well for starters, Fred had this to say on April 23, 2002 during the Senate debates on the 2002 Energy bill:

"I would like to thank my colleagues for their statements and indicate my support for the agreement that we have reached with regard to Title X. A lot of hard work has gone into this agreement. It is my belief that there are still many uncertainties with regard to climate change. However, I also believe that the potential risks of climate change warrant study, research and technological development. This substitute to Title X goes a long way towards achieving those goals. This amendment also recognizes that there are many contributors to climate change beyond CO2, and I appreciate that black soot is included. (snip)

This would seem a fairly harmless statement, if one just skimmed over the Congressional Record. Unfortunately for Mr. Thompson, not everyone skims over it. Title X was part of Tom Daschle’s

Hunter: ....The Kyoto Protocol would have been disastrous for those who advocate less greenhouse gasses as well as Americans

Sounds like Newt.

...I believe strongly in achieving energy independence for the U.S. This should be accomplished by cutting taxes on the production of alternative energy systems....

Sounds like Newt.

I reject Al Gore’s and others’ doomsday alarmism on the subject.

Sounds like Newt.

Gee, too bad Newt has been divorced twice.

The USA should not waste one penny attempting to reduce CO2 emissions.

Back in 2002 when people were all enamored with the Mann hockey stick computer model, it appeared real. It wasn’t until 2006 and the Wegman report to Congress in the Barton Committee that the Mann hockey stick was thoroughly discredited that the only one using it any more is the Goracle. Search for “AD HOC COMMITTEE REPORT ON THE ‘HOCKEY STICK’ GLOBAL CLIMATE RECONSTRUCTION” July 2006 and you will find it. Or check the Congressional record for same.

Today we understand the whole of the global warming alarmist hoax rests on a few inaccurate, incomplete computer models that can literally produce any result you want by presetting the boundary conditions and other ‘fudge factors’. There is no consistent empirical source data which supports the alarmist AGW hypothesis. The ice cores — nope, ice caves — nope, the tree ring data — nope, gauge temperatures — nope, and last of all, the 30 years of satellite data — nope. In fact, the 1970s ice age predictions are closer to true today than the warming predictions, proving that climate changes.

Now that the hoax has being exposed, even the English court recognizes the alarmists hoax for what it is, Fred may want to rethink his position. If you can hoax Limbaugh, you can hoax Fred.

He’ll be proposing methods to lessen cow flatulence right after he gets rid of people’s Marlboros.

I appreciate that. It IS a national security issue. Duncan is right.

However, I do think that brilliant people can figure out ways to secure our energy independence, control pollution and still be good conservatives. I think we should demand it. It does not have to be a mutually exclusive proposition IMO.

"We must become independent from foreign sources of oil. This will mean a combination of efforts related to conservation and efficiency measures, developing alternative sources of energy like biodiesel, ethanol, nuclear, and coal gasification, and finding more domestic sources of oil such as in ANWR or the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS)."~~Mitt Romney

Yes, the science against the earlier computer models has been devastating to any and all who pay attention. This GW crap is highly dangerous.....if we allow the politicians to run with it, that is.

I don’t think anyone wants to restrict technological progress, but I got news for you, it’s going to take decades before we have an even remotely acceptable alternative to burning oil.

We have started. It’s called the free market. It’s just that oil is supremely efficient at producing the energy we need. And until recently, it was dirt cheap. It will likely be again, as more countries sink efforts into domestic exploration. Brazil just discovered huge reserves.

So he was just playing a conservative on the radio, when filling in for Paul Harvey? He played it well.

I don’t know what to think. This article was from his last year in the Senate, and I usually judge a candidate by record, not campaign rhetoric. Safer that way.

I do think that brilliant people can figure out ways to secure our energy independence, control pollution and still be good conservatives.

It depends on what you are suggesting. Carbon Dioxide is NOT pollution! Conserve energy, yes. Put caps on our very existence, outlaw sensible energy options and hogtie industry and growth, we will not survive. Should businesses be encouraged to pursue alternative energy options? Absolutely. Should Government fund massive programs to do so? I don't think so. It makes absolutely no sense to me to act as if energy independence is the highest priority item while are shutting down our farmlands and allowing ourselves to become reliant on foreign imports for fundamentals--like food! We should be looking for a large degree of independence on many fronts and eliminating laws and regulations that inhibit it.

As to ethanol, it is non-sensical--yet another scam, IMO.
