Perhaps the biggest fraud ever to be perpetrated onto the American people is Global Warming. Al Gore is just the symptom. If not given cover by a group of supposed climate scientists and other left-wing academics, Mr. Gore would be easily seen as the nutcase, phony alarmist that he is. Alas, nearly the entire left of the political spectrum has bought into this hoax, and more than a few conservatives have also succumbed to the hysteria, including Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee.
Fred Thompson, at least since he started campaigning for the GOP nomination, has provided some biting remarks regarding this issue, including pointing out that Mars is experiencing Martian Warming, with nary a human influence (Richard Hoaglands theories not withstanding).
But what did Fred do and say during his time in the Senate, representing the good folks of Tennessee?
Well for starters, Fred had this to say on April 23, 2002 during the Senate debates on the 2002 Energy bill:
"I would like to thank my colleagues for their statements and indicate my support for the agreement that we have reached with regard to Title X. A lot of hard work has gone into this agreement. It is my belief that there are still many uncertainties with regard to climate change. However, I also believe that the potential risks of climate change warrant study, research and technological development. This substitute to Title X goes a long way towards achieving those goals. This amendment also recognizes that there are many contributors to climate change beyond CO2, and I appreciate that black soot is included. (snip)
This would seem a fairly harmless statement, if one just skimmed over the Congressional Record. Unfortunately for Mr. Thompson, not everyone skims over it. Title X was part of Tom Daschles

There is more, the docs we got from a FOIA all zip together with this.
But I’ll be back later. The kitchen calls me.
Confusing is putting it mildly. LOL
Or.... 135 forward. (#135 links to the original congressional record of Senate Amendment 3232).
:-)
To establish a national climate change policy.Fred also worked with Kerry to kill the B-2 Bomber program, FWIW
TEXT OF AMENDMENT AS SUBMITTED: CR S3054-3059co-sponsors:
.............Sen Thompson, Fred [TN] - 4/22/2002
(2) AUTHORIZATION OF APPROPRIATIONS.There is authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary, to carry out the duties of the Department Office under this subtitle, $4,750,000,000 [that's....4 BILLION, 750 MILLION dollars] for the period of fiscal years 2003 through 2011
very interesting. no surprise to me, but, still, VERY interesting.
Thanks for the ping, calpernia.
Didn’t mean to short sheet ya! Sorry.
Yes. All to give the appearnce of doing something about a non existent problem. It is what govt does best.
Well.....I do think what it does best is find ways to STEAL our money and SPEND it on their globalist agendas.
Yes. that may be a more accurate rendition.
Sickening, isn’t it?!
I’m getting a warm fuzzy! I appreciate that very much from all of you — thank you. It’s valuable to dig through all the crap and get to the truth (even when it’s not favorable to my guy, dang it — just have to hope that next time it cuts in his direction).
:)
LOL! No problem. :-)
Yeah, the very thought of wading through two crappy amendments just makes me tired.
I may be a bit biased on the DARPA stuff — I’ve worked tangentally with a couple of DARPA-related efforts. The question is whether something with a false premise (human-caused global warming) can yield unrelated, valuable insights on energy, geology/earth sciences, etc...the discovery process is chaotic enough that I could see that happening. At least that’s the argument I use to try to convince dem friends to support SDI. :)
Hm. It makes me wonder whether something similar subsequently has been slipped into another bill and passed without us knowing about it (are you wondering the same thing?).
It also makes me curious in general about how binding these “senses of congress” are. I always thought they were basically lip-service/an excuse not to do anything...but since they’re appropriating money for these senses of Congress, it appears that that’s incorrect.
I should clarify that I think most candidates have only a minority of supporters who are obsessively researching them...I think a lot of people are wise enough not to spend as much time staring at a computer screen as all the Thompson/Hunter/etc. researchers on FR do. Sigh.
I’m sure there is tons of stuff that has been slipped through, the consequences of which will become evident at some opportune time that the leftists choose to make their big move. All of this climate change, law-of-the-sea, and other UN nonsense that brings the potential of international law enforcement and taxation is the most troublesome to me.
I like good researchers regardless of what the topic is.
Erik from RedState just put out an editorial here:

What you should know about Fred’s NRLC endorsement
He has some responses in looking into the NRLC endorsement that showed some weight given to Thompson defunding Planned Parenthood from the monies they received through Title X.
And yet, this editorial by A.J. Madison, Fred Thompson, the Global Warming President?, shows that Fred Thompson co-sponsored Title X.
hmmmmm
Different Title X. That one is from the HHS funding bill
