Jindal Victory: A Strategic GOP Misstep? Bobby Jindals philosophically consistent and unapologetic conservatism clearly did not prove to be a liability. On the contrary, in a field of eleven candidates, it was Jindals blunt and unwavering assertion of traditional values that decisively separated him from the rest of the field....
.....Thus, undaunted by the field of aspiring gubernatorial candidates, Jindal knew he did not need to try to appeal to the great middle, nor was it in his nature to do so. Instead, he ran on a conservative platform only matched among the field of Presidential candidates by California Representative Duncan Hunter.
Of course Hunter, strapped for funds and struggling among the second tier candidates during the primary season, is not considered a serious candidate by the party insiders. Yet he handily won the Texas and Arizona straw polls, and proved a surprisingly strong contender in South Carolina.
The other front runners among the GOP continue to bob and weave in hopes of proving their connection to real America, just as frequently abandoning conservative principle as trying to convince the electorate that, despite the evidence, it has always been the heart and soul of their political philosophy. Perhaps, before it is too late, a worthy lesson can be learned by following the courageous and stunningly successful example of the new Governor of Louisiana.

Unfortunately for the analogy, Louisiana is in the South; the whole United States, on the other hand, is a mixture of many different demographics, interest and ethnic groups, etc.. While I think we can win with a conservative, it will probably have to be a better known, more pragmatic candidate, such as Fred Thompson. Hopefully, a President Thompson will find a place for a man of Congressman Hunter’s conservatism, patriotism and military background in his administration.

Great! One more thing she and I have in common.

The fact that Fred’s immigration record is almost identical to John McCain’s (neither of them received anything higher than a C from Americans for Better Immigration) or that Fred voted AGAINST impeaching Bill Clinton will bother a LOT of people when the generel election comes around.

"The fact that Freds immigration record is almost identical to John McCains (neither of them received anything higher than a C from Americans for Better Immigration) or that Fred voted AGAINST impeaching Bill Clinton will bother a LOT of people when the generel election comes around.""Of the potential GOP front runners, Fred Thompson has one of the better records on immigration."- NumbersUSA
On the other: You are somewhat mistaken...Fred voted yes for one article of impeachment and no on the other, because he didn't feel it rose to the level of what the Founding Fathers intended in the Constitution. Fred is a federalist.

I don’t know. the last time we had real landslides we ran an unapologetic conservative pro-lifer who wanted to reshape the world order.

On the contrary, in a field of eleven candidates, it was Jindals blunt and unwavering assertion of traditional values that decisively separated him from the rest of the field.... I think what separated him was the prevailing view that he's a smart, honest technocrat who gets things done.

Fred Thompson is an apparent conservative but his record seems remarkably soft and full of little contradictions.

and one really BIG contradiction and that is RFC which, I think, disqualifies him from conservative billing.
