Road to Des Moines Conversions on Immigration (Hunter Press release)
News Which Cannot Lose ^ | 10/25/07 | Duncan Hunter/staff

Posted on 10/26/2007 11:42:37 AM PDT by pissant

Washington, D.C. – Republican presidential candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) criticized fellow GOP contenders Thompson and Romney after they released ‘position papers’ on illegal immigration apparently discovering only just recently the policy he has been advocating for years.

Both the Romney and Thompson plans talk tough on border security and cracking down on illegal immigration, but the plans beg the question as to why their records don’t reflect such rhetoric.

Rep. Hunter explained, “I can tell you that my proposals to significantly increase and strengthen deportations, penalties, interior and border enforcement, and to curtail the incentives for illegal aliens generally had few vocal allies in the US Senate…Mr. Thompson certainly was not among them.”

He continued, “As for Mr. Romney, the fact that many cities in Massachusetts were, and remain, protected sanctuaries for illegal aliens, makes one wonder if this is just one more of the those ‘I saw the light’ moments.”

While Congressman Hunter is pleased to see the GOP candidates move towards the positions he has been advocating for decades, he stated, “watching Senator Thompson, Governor Romney, Mayor Giuliani and now even Governor Huckabee attempting to outflank one another on this issue is, frankly, amusing; after long careers where the problem was either ignored, or in some cases, exacerbated”.

Rep. Hunter authored and shepherded legislation that built a two-layer border fence outside of San Diego leading to a 53% drop in crime and 90% decrease in drug trafficking along that corridor. Hunter’s message of a stronger national defense, tighter border security, and fair trade with China is resonating with voters across the nation.

Gee, and to think people that know his record and like him have done their best to discourage support for this Reaganite. Imagine that.

And now you bring in a Baker protege and expect us to salute? LOL

“The public is telling him something but he’s not listening. The man has done good things in the Congress but the people are saying no to his request for a promotion. Now whose fault is that?.....”

The public is not telling him no, the public is being blocked from hearing what he says and does. How could they say no to something they are not being allowed to hear? Were the public at large to hear him, there would be no contest. There is a difference between people ignoring him, or the media and GOP ignoring him. We will do our part to get his word out, when it does, it cannot fail. If we can’t, it will be America that loses, no this great American.

Thanks for the ping.

***Yup, and since this issue is important to mainstream America, they’ll be looking for someone who won’t flipflop on this issue, someone the know will follow through with what he says. B4DH.

The buck stops at the top and the top of the Hunter campaign is Duncan Hunter himself. It’s his job to sell himself to the voters of the GOP and he’s not done that. The bottom line is he can’t or if he could have undoubtely he’d have done so. That’s not the fault of any other candidate, the party, or the public at large.

Yes, and since he is NOT going to drop out, he plans to continue the salespitch. And is gaining more support here and elsewhere with each passing day. And the weak sisters all hope he won’t catch fire and spoil it for their gal.

Agreed, in that presidential contest, he might stand a good chance, yes. He might even be the frontrunner.

No one is "blocking" Hunter. He just isn't attracting sufficient support to get his message out on his own.

Why are you bothering with us lowly one-percenters? It would seem you have bigger fish to fry? You could send suggestions to Fred regarding staffers that would be likely to meet Jeri’s approval. His staff turns over faster than the McDonalds night shift.

Also, perhaps you could find a way for him to act like he knows what he is talking about at debates. He kept looking down and reading the script. He can’t continue to stand up there, pulling his ear, looking like Carl from “Slingblade” and reading from a script. That is no way for a “straight-shooter”, “doesn’t dance to anyones tune” man to roll.

I mean once it was just Rudy’s liberal credentials he was addressing. He had to read that? So, anyway, best of luck, and I hope some Jeri-friendly staffers come along real soon.

The man is running in a GOP primary of which he’s been a member since his first election or before. Thus he’s had almost 30 yrears to build recognition among the party. Who’s fault is it that he’s not known among the GOP. It damn sure isn’t the medias job to promote him if he wants to accomplish something for himself. It’s his job to build his resume and become known across the states via party leadereship roles, etc.

Reagan wasn't a career politician. Neither is Fred.

Hunter`s been hanging around Congress for 27 years! You'd think after 14 elections, he'd know how to run a campaign. So far, all Hunter has been able to do is show up for meaningless debates. He's outta cash and just about outta time.

Go Fred go!

Funny; "Carl from Slingblade" as you so wryly called him, is in first or second place nationally, depending on the poll, leads in South Carolina and Florida, and is breathing down Mitt's neck in Iowa. Another words, whatever the hell he's doing, it seems to be working! I don't think I'd trade that for 1%, would you?

In his initial election, he beat a popular incumbent Democrat in a 2-to-1 Democrat district.

The difference between Hunter and most other elected representatives is that he gets things done.

Numbers can and do change. No matter how the numbers vacillate, in the morning when we wake up, Duncan Hunter will still be the best conservative candidate in the field. I won’t trade poll numbers for the best. No deal :) I am tired of trusting those who blow in from the four winds talking and talking and talking. This country needs a man that has done what they are talking about, that is, if you can even get them to talk about it.
