Ron Paul versus the Central Planners
USA daily ^ | 10/15/07 | Murray Sabrin

Last week, CNBC hosted another GOP presidential debate, and once again Rep. Ron Paul was dissed by the questioners who gave him the least amount of time in the two hour Q&A session. Nonetheless, Rep. Paul’s responses were outstanding. All seven minutes of his responses can be viewed here.

Besides the apparent media bias in the mainstream media (MSM) “debates,” they nevertheless are proving useful and worthwhile for Ron Paul’s supporters and an education for GOP voters.

These debates highlight how Rep. Paul’s so-called free market GOP opponents want to work for “energy independence,” maintain agricultural subsidies, eliminate the income tax and replace with a national sales tax they dub the “fair tax,” impose more “industrial policies” under the guise of free markets, and maintain the Federal Reserve’s monetary monopoly.

In short, Ron Paul’s opponents are Republican central planners who want to use government power to create a “better” economy and funnel taxpayer dollars to special interests.

Below are some excerpts from the debates highlighting some of the big government approaches of two GOP front-runners. The full transcript can be found here.

ROMNEY: Industry is shrinking here, jobs are going away. This is just unacceptable. And, therefore, everyone's going to have to come together to solve the problem.

And that means, from the president's standpoint, the president's going to have to stand up and say -- you know what? -- to the auto industry: The door's always open. We're ongoing to work with you and make sure that you have a listening ear and someone who will participate with labor and with management.

Number two, we're going to make sure that we invest in technology and research. A lot of that relate into energy, fuels, automotive research like material sites to help boost Michigan once again.

We're going to have to fix the schools, as Newt Gingrich pointed out. 22 percent of Detroit kids don't -- excuse me, 22 percent graduate from high school. That's unacceptable….

And we're going to have to go to work, as well, to make sure that there's a level playing field around the world, as we compete, to make sure that American goods are pushing into other markets, but goods coming overseas aren't getting an advantage, as they do now, with embedded taxes.

GIULIANI: This (energy independence) is a matter of national security. You've got to support all the alternatives. There's no magic bullet here. Biofuels, nuclear power -- we haven't licensed a nuclear power plant in 30 years. We haven't had a new refinery in 30 years. We're on hold.

Hydroelectric power, solar power, wind power, conservation -- we have to support all of these things. We've got to support them in a positive way. And this is an area in which the federal government, the president has to treat this like putting a man on the moon. It is a matter of national security.

One of the ways to win the Islamic terrorist war against us is for us to be energy independent.

ROMNEY: I believe in domestic supports for our agriculture industry. I don't see our food supply being the same kind of jeopardy situation that our energy supply is in. And clearly, there's a responsibility of government to make sure that our farmers are treated on the same basis as farmers in Europe and other markets that we compete with when the middle of the Doha round at the WTO talks. And if we find a way to bring down subsidies around the world, that will be good news.

You get the picture. More intervention by federal government to improve the economy will be the paradigm of a Romney or Giuliani administration. More federal involvement in education, more government involvement in international trade, more federal government intervention in ailing industries, more federal government subsidies in the energy sector.

Only Ron Paul has been criticizing the Federal Reserve's legal counterfeiting, which is responsible for the housing bubble, the widening income gap in the United States and the accelerating decline of the dollar in foreign markets. In short, all the GOP candidates (except Ron Paul) by their silence support debasement of the dollar.

So GOP primary voters: Do you want a presidential candidate who is a central planner? Or, do you want a presidential candidate who is an uncompromising proponent of free markets, sound money and peaceful international relations that will make us more secure?

IMO this difference of philosophy is also seen in how the campaigns are being run with Romney and McCain trying to have their campaigns create 'social networks' etc.. while the Paul campaign is decentralized, and invidiually run. HQ has lost totally control, not that they wanted it in the first place. For example, check out what these guys did over the weekend. Pretty amazing, IMO.

“peaceful international relations”

We already have peaceful international relations. We just don’t want to appease terror sponsored states like Iran and Syria.

What happened here? Ron Paul fatigue on FR?

Usually these threads would be filled with 40+ angry denunciations of Paul by now.

Either that or they have finally realized that Ron Paul makes quite a few good points on some issues (not that it is necess. to agree w/He on all...), either that or they are getting ready to ‘pounce’ :)!

Maybe the Ann Coulter *debate* has sidelined RP for a while with the denigraters.

LOL, read through some of the older threads.

Shrimp is a big Paul hater thing, lol. It’s even become a keyword to 99.9% of Paul threads.

The so-called establishment (Rockefeller) wing of the Republican party has been socialistic and globalistic for as long as I can remember.

Ann sure took them all for a ride. I wonder if she just sits around thinking up these ingenious hooks to throw out, knowing that she’ll reel in a full catch of politically-correct nit wits? But we have gone from criticizing her for wanting to convert Muslims overseas to Americans here within our own shores. Come to think of it, it may not be very much longer before it’s considered politically-incorrect to speak about Christianity anywhere in public.

I have to admit there’s plently I do not like about the man but he’s still above the rest of the group. Have you seen any polls about what percentage of the military would vote for him?
