We've got some TV reviews on two new shows this season.
First, the 40 year old virgin stars in a quirky comedy known as "The Office". And what's "Pushing Up Daisies" all about?
Guest writer Michelle entertains us with tales of a garage in need of defragging.

The Democrats chose a formidable enemy this time but click in because while I love the guy I think Rush Limbaugh could end up silenced under Hillary's wrath.

I believe the show title is “Pushing Daisies”, and it will never see a second season, if it sees the end of THIS season....
Too bad the author does not like “The Office”. Maybe it’s the kind of show you have to watch from the beginning (this is year four, I believe). Or maybe you have to have actually worked in an office with characters such as some of these (especially Dwight, to some extent)! Anyway, myself and others I know find this program hysterical.
I like Pushing Daisies, and I like some of the other works by the producer, esp “Dead Like Me”.
I agree this won’t see a second season. The mainstream doesn’t like these creative shows, and despite the fact that they come to great reviews, the average Joe won’t watch because it lacks action and sex.
Hi Joann,
I believe I would have like the Office if I had watched it from the beginning. I did note, in my review, that the show had similarities to many offices in which I worked. I definitely GOT that angle.
I just don’t think I’ll watch it again although I did laugh out loud a time or two. While I will, to those commenting on “Pushing Daisies” and I apologize for the “up”...I’m not at all sure whether this show will survive as, by my review, it’s a bit confusing.
but maybe it’s just me.
I WILL watch Pushing Daisies again as the notion of the lead character having a love relationship with someone he cannot ever touch amuses and intrigues me.
Yup. Especially in sales. I saw a lot of "Creed" in too many salesmen. Michael is a good caricature of my former boss. And I've seen the rest of the characters too.
All great comedies have great characters, and "The Office" has a ton of them. Michael and Dwight are essential, and I love the bald accountant guy, Dwight's girlfriend, the "seen everything" black accountant, and the fat lady in accounting. Toby's great too.
“Pushing Daisies” - is one of the better shows for network TV - it requires a brain to watch it - “The Office” (or orifice) is worse than having to watch a backroom love fest during the DNC convention...
Fishtalk, one thing that is CRITICAL to watching this season is knowing the history of the “Ryan” character. For the first three years, he was a contract employee, and they treated him horribly, actually calling him “Temp” (as in temporary employee). Michael, Jim, a girl named Karen and a few others interviewed for the big job in New York (vacated by Michael’s now girlfriend, Jan, who was actually fired), and surprise of surprises, it was given to Ryan, the temp! Now he is incredibly condescending to them all, now that they work for him!
And the romance between Jim and Pam has been a long time coming. Jim had a crush on Pam, but she was initially engaged to a guy who worked in the warehouse, who treated her very poorly. She finally broke off their engagement, but by that time, Jim had found a girl named “Karen”, who also worked in the office. Jim and Karen seemed to have split up because they were in competition for the job, and now finally, after three seasons, Jim and Pam are together.
Dwight is just the strangest of all. He panders to Michael, and takes his responsibilities to an extreme. He was some kind of volunteer deputy at one point; he dressed up in his uniform and interrogated the entire office during one program when they found a roach in the parking lot. He lives on a beet farm with his cousin. I don’t know how to describe him, but kind of like a strict version of those backwoods guys on Newhart (Larry, Darrell and Darrell).
I hardly watch ANY TV except for cable news, but I think this program is hilarious. Maybe you could give it a second chance.
I think the original British version of “The Office” is even funnier. Ricky Gervais (the boss) is about the most annoying character in the history of television. Worth getting the DVDs, if you haven’t already.
Did the writer watch “Pushing Daisies” in fast-forward or something, or maybe with the sound off?
Every question she poses was either answered by the narration or the show itself.
My family really liked the show, and everyone I talked to who saw it, like it.
Which of course is the kiss of death for it.
What I hear is that it's A) expensive, running over budget on every episode they've shot so far, and B) not seen as a sustainable premise for a series. It's a movie idea, not a series idea. That's the word on the street, anyway. I know production was shut down. Whether it's up again I don't know.
... if only it were performed in English.
What the HELL are those Limeys saying!!!

Well, I do know what a “chav” is.
Sorry I posted late, I did a search on pushing up daisies to see if anyone liked it. I like the show too. I had dvr’d the first episode and copied to my computer, cut the commericals out and showed it to my friends...they liked it too.
