Well, if Duncan Hunter would do the RIGHT THING, and withdraw from this race, I believe ALL of his supporters will get behind Fred Thompson, and with 75% of FReepers united for Fred Thompson the Dems would be shaking in their boots...

Better yet, make it Thompson/Hunter '08.

At least Hunter does not have a terrorist fundraiser as an adviser.

I admire your tenacity, but this is simply ludicrous.

I’ve called Fred Thompson a spoiler Ross Perot from the get-go. IMO the CFR element, the Rockefeller Republicans, who have been running the Republican Party for years now are backing FDT because they do not want a true Conservative in the White House.

Desperate supporters of Duncan are getting more desperate as Duncan becomes less and less significant.

Using data from FreeRepublic as a basis for national support of a candidate does not reflect reality. If that were the case, Duncan would have a distinctly larger exposure in polls like Gallup, Harris, and Rasmussen. He barely even registers at the error margin and is included in the "also-ran" category in most.

YOUR SUGGESTION HAS A FATAL FLAW.
One minor detail you forget David.... FR doesn't select the Republican nominee. They don't elect the President either. The WHOLE Republican Party nominates, and the WHOLE country elects the President. FRED has many, many, many more supporters COUNTRY WIDE who think he is the best choice. Duncan has no chance, not even with Fred's help. IMHO

THE A MAN LEADING THE WAY, COUNTRY WIDE!

If Fred drops out, Rudy wins the nomination. It won’t even be close. Hunter is a great guy, but he has no more chance at winning the nomination that I do, with or without Fred in the race.

This is starting just like the 2000 scenario. Then it was W that the RLC had chosen to get the nomination now it is Fred Thompson because God knows the last person the RLC wants as their nominee is a true conservative. Thompson will talk the conservative talk and then he will do just as W has done, such as keeping the borders wide open so the illegals can keep breaking the laws and the Drug Cartels can continue their operations. Sorry David this is not to disparage Duncan Hunter but you see it in the posts here, the liberal media have already started the mantra and most Conservatives allow the self-fulfilling prophecy to come true that any true conservative is unelectable. Only CFR member RINO’s need apply. Also note that most people here talk about nothing but polls so they are more interested in being manipulated to vote for a “winner” than looking at the issues and where the Candidate really stands. If all the liberal media polls told you that only Arlen Spectre could win the Presidency I’ll bet you a majority of Free Republic members would be singing the praises of Arlen Spectre. The American people are being blatantly manipulated with all these polls and the media loves their power to do it to them.

You are bonkers.

Hunter may be a great conservative, but his record shows him to be a poor “candidate.”

Fred is a solid, if imperfect conservative, and is a formidable candidate.

Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson are supported by 75% of FReepers

This is roughly about as insignificant as the hairs on a fly's backside.

Sorry to be a downer! :)

If that were true, Hunter would have had all this support before Fred talked of running.

He didn’t.

You’re assuming that all of Thompson’s voters on FR would go to Hunter.

Even though I prefer Hunter’s policies ... I’d be more likely to move to Romney or Huckabee than Hunter. No, they’re not perfect. No, they’re not even as good as Hunter. But, they’ve actually got a chance at winning the nomination from Rudy ... Hunter doesn’t.

Its never good for conservatism for conservatives to rally around a hopeless canidate.

Unfortunately, Duncan isn't moving upward in the polls. Thus, if Thompson did drop out, we'd likely be stuck with Romney as the alternative to Giuliani.

david.... I understand your passion for the man you want elected for the job. I too love Hunter, as I do love Thompson but I don’t feel he can do it alone. Thomspon has already said he would not accept 2nd seat; therefore, my only hope to get Conservatives in the White House is a Thompson/Hunter ticket for 08. I have also thought about our future. I believe Thompson can clean up most of this mess we’re in within his 1st term. This will set Hunter up for the White House for the next 8 years after and will give the people plenty of time to know Hunter. I met Duncan Hunter at the GOEIII and I must say, I was very impressed, even more than I was prior to meeting him. But like I said, I’m looking the the most conservative electable ticket for 08 and for me, that is a Thompson/Hunter ticket. I believe they are our top 2 candidates.
