Thompson said Friday he will not support a federal gay marriage ban. Thompson thinks the states should decide. Thompson did support the federal Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. What year did Fred catch his Federalist infection? I see a pattern here. Like the recent flip flopping on Laura Ingraham's show about S-27. Like his questionnaire answers on Abortion where he wrote-
"Abortions should be legal in all circumstances as long as the procedure is completed within the first trimester of the pregnancy."
Fred did vote pro life, but that statement and many others bother me. I prefer a consistent candidate who is not selling Kool Aide to appeal to both sides. A man with a solid 26 year record of votes and floor speeches.
"I firmly believe that marriage is one of the most important social institutions we have and that it is central to promoting family values and raising children in a healthy environment. It is for this reason that I cosponsored and voted in favor of H.J. Res. 88 (Musgrave-CO), which proposes an amendment to the U.S. Constitution declaring that marriage in the United States shall consist solely of the union of a man and a woman. Numerous studies indicate fathers excel at reducing antisocial behavior and delinquency in boys and sexual activity in girls, while mothers provide emotional security and read the physical and emotional cues of infants. I firmly believe that children need the unique influence offered by both a father and a mother"~Duncan Hunter
The thread’s central theme is federalism. The Constitution is directly on point.
Okay, and how do you plan to deal with gay couples going from states that support gay marriage to states that do not? This is not like concealed carry or who can have a stun gun. This is all about forcing homosexuality on states that don’t want it. This is different because no other issue is being used in such a way. You don’t have people moving to other states that don’t have concealed carry to try to force the new state to allow CC. You don’t have people doing this with any other issue. And this is an extremely core issue about what family is. It is one of the three pillars society is built upon. Family, Human Government, and Religion.
I am against bloated federal government extending its power but this IS an issue that should be dealt with at the federal level. If it can be dealt with by a constitutional amendment the hundreds of individual conflicting state and federal lawsuits can be avoided and not even get off the ground. Their strategy is to get victories wherever they can and continue to expand victories based on prior rulings. They are hoping the fight is long because it gives them jobs and they can beg other liberals for money to keep going and hope that decent people get tired of it and enough of us get generally sick about it to cave in.
Key point here. I like his states rights stance. Let the populace decide what is best for their region do not force your ideals good or bad on another State. This is why I like Thompson. I would venture to say he is not for gay marriage but will not force that view on individual states. The federal government should work for the states who in turn should work for the constituency. For better or worse we are starting see Fred’s ideas on the federal government and how it is suppose to operate.
Who Cares ??
I care. I and 14 MILLION other "Values Voters" care... ya know the ones Fred doesn't think he needs.
Marriage is a religious institution. You are infringing on someone else's beliefs.
Are you really any different than a non-violent version of Sharia-pedalers?
Don’t force homosexuality on ANYONE who doesn’t want it. HAHAHAHAHA
Here’s the right answer:
The Government has NO BUSINESS RECOGNIZING ANY KIND OF MARRIAGE! The govt uses marriage as an tool to discriminate against single people.
Marriage is a religious institution. It’s personal, and govt should stay out of it.
LOL! Gotcha! I was 100% correct in my post #11. Ole Thompson ducked out exactly three days after Hunter gave up the ghost.
Not really funny at all. If certain FReepers hadn’t been so anti-Hunter, maybe America would still stand a chance!
??? What are you talking about? Hunter was a non-factor and never got over one percent. Unfortunately, Hunter was not ready for prime time. Nothing but a bunch of sour grapes blaming other people for the failure of Duncan. It was his only his own fault. Trying to blame others is a losing tactic that serves zero purpose.
Nothing you can say can change the facts, AR. Sorry.
That you are certifiably crazy?
:) Watch your tongue, son.
